Any martial artists?
Does anyone else practice martial arts? I've been taking jujitsu (judo) this fall.

I've always been fascinated by Muay Thai and was hoping to start sometime soon.
I got into MMA about a year ago when I started taking boxing and kickboxing classes at my gym, HMA Kickboxing. Since then I've met a bunch of ultimate fighters (namely, the Gracies) and even went on a few 'dates' with Mayhem. :) ;) |
Judo and Karate as a teenager. Learned enough to say, "So sorry," and walk the other way. Quickly. Some people are armed.
There's a very old humor bit by Bill Cosby about the guy who had just won his Black Belt in whatever...He said he knew how to break a brick and break a stick and was feeling pretty tough. So, a guy with a gun comes up and says, "Give me your wallet." "So I broke a brick, then broke a stick and then I gave him my wallet." You gotta know which battles to fight. |
You might try BJJ, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu also known as Gracie Jiu-Jitsu. It dominated the Ultimate Fighting Championship in the early days.
http://bjj.org/ http://www.gracieacademy.com/ Another excellent art is from Israel called Krav Maga. That is the hand-to-hand part. In its' complete form it is Kapap-Lotar. It is not your traditional martial art. It is a close quarters fighting technique resulting in the death of your opponent. It was developed by the Israeli special forces during the formation of Israel and includes hand-to-hand techniques, clubs, knives, and shooting all in one art form. A friend of mine is an instructor. Highly suited to law enforcement and military personel though law enforcement employs a more restricted form due to the limitations on the implementation of letal force. http://www.kravmaga.com/krav01.html http://www.avinardia.com/israelcqb.htm Great article on the history: http://www.kravmaga.be/pages/originesen.html |
