Sorority Alumnae Reality Show?

Some alumnae chapter presidents were recently contacted by a TV producer who is trying to find women in their 30's who want to participate in a reality show. The show is supposed to be a comedic series that would have the women relive their college sorority time. They are targeting women who "remember their sorority days as the best years of their lives" and say that "anyone involved is sure to have loads of fun."

Do you think it would be o.k. to do it? Why or why not?

i hope that any interested sorority alumnae would check first with their headquarters to see how they felt. i would imagine one and all of the npc sororities would not approve. editing can turn the sweetest good fairy into the most wicked witch. sounds like a train wreck waiting to happen.

This is what I received.....

I don't this this is private information as it really impacts everyone so I'll share. I received this information from our Area Facilitator yesterday. I'm not sure if it is the same company, but regardless, I'd be leery of this one as well. This was sent to an alumnae association president in Atlanta and since there is a strong panhell presence it was passed to other NPC alum groups.

******
Dear Madam,
My name is Sue. I'm an associate producer at Kaufman Films, a
production company based in New York City and headed by Kevin Kaufman, a native of Atlanta. Mr. Kaufman is a graduate of Westminster High School, and a friend of many graduates of the University of Georgia.

The reason for my e-mail is that we are developing a comedic television series that will focus on women in their thirties who were active members of sororities during their college years. With Kevin's roots so deep in Georgia, we thought it would be fun to feature UGA alumni who live in the Atlanta area and who remember their sorority days as the best years of their lives.

I am contacting your alumni association because my research indicates that your fraternity not only has a collegiate chapter at the University of Georgia, Athens, but also an active alumni association in the Athens or Atlanta area. We need some help networking these women and hope you'll help the cause. Again, this is a light comedy we're developing, so anyone involved is sure to have loads of fun. Please feel free to view our website at Kaufmanfilms.com to learn more about the high-caliber programming we've developed.
*******

The president who received it called the company and found out the following:
The alumnae chapter president in Atlanta received this
information. The alumnae president contacted the producer, Kevin Kaufman for a description of the show. This is a reality type mini series about women who try to relive their college sorority life - similar to the movie Old School. She declined to send the information to the alumnae, saying there was no way her sorority would be involved in this type of project.

So, that is the word on the street down here.....

Yes, it is the same company. I thought it would make for an interesting discussion but I deliberately kept the info out. I'm sure they'll probably find some that will participate but I did not want to give them any extra publicity or encouragement. :)

A graduate of Westminster High, and a "friend of many UGA graduates" ??!!! Does anyone else find this amusing ?

I mean should I start putting on my resume "Graduate of San Francisco State and friend of many Stanford and UC Berkeley graduates ??" Cause I ... I am... or should I even add "attended many parties and football games at Stanford while still in High school ?" I mean really :)

Well, I do give her credit with adding in the Westminster High part. It's located in Atlanta and it's a breeding ground for future SEC greeks. I think their private school tuition is around the same as some in-state university tuitions.
Still highly amusing, though.

Who would watch a bunch of professional women with about 10 years of active work, marrieds/moms, etc., acting like teenagers? Sounds like a really dumb Disney Channel comedy movie of the week.

glitter 650, I have lots of friends at Stanford and UCB.
jUST because you go to a certain school it does not mean you can't know anyone at a good school. I even know many girls at ucla. However, I think it's a good idea. Maybe this show will show good things maybe not...but why not?? you gotta live life.

No one's denying that. It's just that it's a really silly thing to put on a resume.

There's several girls in my chapter who went to Westminster. I didn't know it had that reputation, although I can't say I'm surprised.

Reality Shows always seem to make things sound so good when they make a presentation.

OOPS that was left on the cutting room floor type thig.

As was said, who would find this interesting without it being spiced up?

Be very careful with something like this.

honeychile 11-20-2005 12:28 PM

:D I think it would be a riot - so long as there were no ADPis involved! :D

I'll give Kevin Kaufman credit for a good idea, but I doubt that any responsible alumnae association would be interested. Maybe he's been reading too much GreekChat?

AchtungBaby80 11-20-2005 12:29 PM

It looks like the TV people would know by now that no NPC is going to give permission to participate in a reality show, so I'm not sure why they're even trying. I'm sure they can find some locals to do it, though...MTV sure didn't have a problem.

rhochi2002 11-20-2005 01:17 PM

haha.... I told my friends that if I ever try to go on a reality show that they should slap me...
I am sure someone will do it though... some people likee to be the center of attention!

You know we're all screwed when the reality show producers find GC. GC is the original reality-show.
