Hazing and drinking at U of K Kappa Sigma

Hazing Investigation Finds Other Evidence

Fraternity: Evidence Of Underage Drinking Found

LAWRENCE, Kan. -- An investigation into alleged hazing at a University of Kansas fraternity uncovered evidence of underage drinking, KMBC's Marcus Moore reported.

The national chapter of Kappa Sigma notified the university Monday that it is investigating the hazing allegations. It said the investigation has uncovered some evidence of hazing at the Lawrence chapter, as well as evidence of underage drinking and other inappropriate behavior.

Some KU students said they weren't surprised by the report.

"This is a college campus -- there's always going to be underage drinking," one student told KMBC.

"That kind of stuff happens all over the place," another student said.

"I think the university can take care of it in a simple manner ... and make sure it doesn't happen in the future," a student said.

University officials have not said how they plan to handle the situation, however, they said they have a zero tolerance policy toward hazing and will take swift action if necessary. Officials said they're waiting for a complete review and a hearing in January.

Lawrence fraternity members declined to comment to KMBC about the investigation.

Two thoughts:

First is that the first quote above is true.

Second, that the second one is as well.

Both are still against the law and no matter how unfair it is, if chapters allow underaged drinking and take the latter attitude, they're taking a chance of losing their charter.

That's just the way it is.

Nor will it, till we stop the MADD tea-totallers in their tracks.

Prohibition of consumption has never worked. In any culture, at any time. Look at our experience as a nation in the 1920's.

We need to teach children (at an early age to respect alcohol, and consume in moderation. then and only then will the 'danger' and 'mystique' dissapear of alcohol consumption. Yet the MADD'ers keep pushing for the increases in drinking age and lowering of BAL's. Soon, you'll have to be 50 and have a special permit to have a drink.

We are moving in the wrong direction.

What is so sad, that this K S Chapter has had problems for some time.

One of My Reps was Regional Director in Ks and wanted to place them on suspension.

He finally got fed up and resigned His Volunteer Position.

As was said, When will they learn especially after what happened with The SN Chapter there.:(
