Gift emergency!

My boyfriend's birthday is tomorrow. I had planned to get him a massage at the spa downtown because he's been saying for weeks that he'd love one, and then take him out to dinner. Well, that sort of fell through because I'm outrageously poor. I'd still like to take him to dinner because that's what you do for someone on their birthday, but now I don't know what kind of present to get him.

The guy does not read. He does not use cologne, or wear clothes from the mall. In fact, it's pointless to even get him clothes because, although he'll thank you graciously, he'll never wear them because he's still wearing the same pairs of camouflage shorts and white t-shirts that he's had since college. (Although his style is one thing I really love! :p) So those things are out. He's got a massive CD collection because he's really into music, but I hesitate to get him any CDs because he goes and buys the ones from the bands he likes the day they're released and I don't know what he's got and what he hasn't got. He doesn't play video games, thank goodness. He has no need for cuff links or fountain pens or anything like that. In short, he would not use any of the usual "boyfriend gifts."

I am at my wits' end! I know he really doesn't give a $hit, but I can't have his friends asking him, "Hey, what'd your girlfriend get you for your birthday?" and then snicker behind his back at what a lame gift I gave him. I want to give people presents they really like. I'm screwed, aren't I?

Since he likes music, what about a "gift certificate" for a concert?(which you could make -- wouldn't cost anything until you have to buy tickets)

Hmm, maybe a membership to iTunes or something similiar to that for a month.

Other than that, go buy some massage oil and check out a book on massage and give him one anyways, it may not be from a spa but I'm pretty sure he'd enjoy it. I took a weekend class from a nearby health club and my boyfriend definetly enjoys his back massages.

What about a really nice bottle of his favorite alcohol ( ok, that's worded badly). Like, my husband loves really old Scotch. For our anniversary this year I bought him an 18 year old bottle of Scotch ( which set me back about $160, so it won't be a very frequent gift), and he loved it. Something like that.
