Any ideas?
Okay, so strange situation.
I see this girl last wednesday at the bar. I think she's pretty cute, but I was out with my M1 friends and didn't get a chance to go talk to her, b/c she left almost immediately after I got there. However she's a Theta Phi Alpha (I know b/c she was wearing letters), and my roommate's girlfriend is also a Theta Phi (I'll call her Andi). Well I finally today, a week later, get to talk to Andi in order to figure out who this girl is. We figure it out using Facebook. The girl is a Theta Phi Alpha alum who is two years older than roommate's gf. TPAalum deactivated early, before her senior year, and so didn't spend a whole lot of time with the TPA's in Andi's pledge class b/c Creighton has deferred rush. The two are friends on facebook, but otherwise don't really know each other. TPAalum is single, and at least from her profile, so far so good. Andi, while she didn't say it in so many words, came across to me as though she's not going to be able to help me out here. I'd like the chance to meet TPAalum. It just seems though like all I have to use is facebook, and that is just totally, totally creepy. Any ideas other than hope to end up at the same spot as this girl? |
IMO, there is nothing wrong with sending her a message on her facebook just to say hi...just don't scare her away or act like an internet stalker :-D

Dude, facebooking people you don't know is weird.
I've had girls send me messages over facebook and me and my friends all have a good laugh. It's better to meet in person in my opinion. Doing it over the internet makes it seem like you are afraid of talking in real life. |
She was wearing letters in a bar?

Anyway, I know you said your friend's girlfriend can't really help you 'cause she doesn't know the girl, but might she know anyone who does? OR you could just message her on Facebook and tell her the truth...just say that you happened to notice her the other night at the bar and your friend recognized her because she's a Theta Phi Alpha too, and whaddya know, when you came across her name on Facebook you just thought you'd say hello. ;) |
Nevermind...
I went to the same brewpub tonight and she was there. I didn't get a chance to talk to her because she was continually surrounded by people, but two weeks in a row at pretty much the only cheap place on Wednesdays is enough to presume that she is a regular there. Probably won't make it there next week, but in two or three...I'll hook this up. She wasn't in letters tonight, but from the roomie's gf, this girl was chapter prez, then immediately went early alumnae after her term was over. Given that she's graduated, I don't think that the "OMG I'm in letters" arguement crossed her mind. I know that since I've graduated, the whole idea of drinking in letters has become a lot less significant. I still try to avoid it when I can, but if I can't, I don't worry too much. Particularly given all the times I've been in letters and wasted before football games... |

Hopefully not with an alcoholic beverage in your hand. Its disrespectful. (Respect for your organization should not end after you leave school, at least I don't think so.) |

I mean, this thread is supposed to be about a guy asking how to get together with a girl and it becomes a big diatribe about OMG DRINKING IN LETTERS=YOU ARE A HORRIBLE PERSON AND A DISGRACE TO YOUR GLO. Betarulz, I think you should avoid this young hussy because if she was in a bar! drinking! in letters!! she's OBVIOUSLY not the sort you want to associate with.          |

Shoot. Is that why I don't meet any decent guys when I'm out?? And here I was beginning to think KSig RC was right and that it's because I spend way too much time at the Avenue. Guess I shouldn't have listened to him... I must remember to no longer drink beers while watching the Patriots suck ass when I'm at the bar, while wearing sweats and an old date party tshirt. |

I think it's more about how you act while you're drinking and wearing letters. If you're an alumna, chances are you won't be acting as crazy as you might have when you were a collegiate. It's not uncommon for alcohol to be involved in professional settings, such as business dinners or work events. Obviously, an alumnae member is going to have more experience with that than a collegiate. Also -- just b/c the girl was at the bar it doesn't mean she was drinking. Being in a bar doesn't mean you HAVE to drink alcohol. |
