'Tis the Season
Halloween is over, Thanksgiving is nearly upon us and it is prime time to begin the holiday shopping season!
Shoot out your gift ideas or gift dilemmas (and we'll chime in to solve them!) |
mine is easy. it involves no shopping at all.
for my parents: an envelope with $300 for each of them. that way, they can buy whatever they want. |
Ok.
I'll start. My mom. My mom is impossible. She always says " don't buy me anything. Just get me a card". So guess what I do? Yeah man. I get her a card. But guess what. She always goes " how come you didn't get me anything! You just got me a card! Sharons card is better!" (Sharon is my sister) ' Anyways. I tell my mom "dude, you told me NOT TO GET YOU ANYTHING" but this year I am going to one up her. I am going to get her something pretty sweet and sick. And then I expect her to say " why did you get me a gift! Save your money boy!" but her face will be  :) then she'll tell all her friends " my son so cute and sweet he blah blah blah this for me" ok so here some shit she likes. - golf - tennis - French shit or whatever shit that has to do with Paris - abercrombie & fitch (she's 54 and wears that shit i swear) - flowers, plants...she lieks gardening - Bobby when he was 8 years old and use to be cute |

So, no one gets gifts this year which I feel terrible about. So not only can I not buy gifts, I can't pay my tuition. |
Bobby, would your mom like a new tennis racquet? I haven't played in years so I don't know how much they cost, but I think that'd be a pretty nice present.
Does anyone know of any good sports books that have come out this year? I thought I'd get one for my dad. There was a big fantasy football one last year that I got him. I don't know if he liked it or not, but I worked at a bookstore then and it was all the buzz. My biggest issue every year is my autistic half brother. His mother always tells me to get him weird things, like altoids. I do what she says, but I feel awful about it. |

This is way too quick. I know Christmas is what, 6 weeks away, but its all too soon for me. |
Oy. I have 8 nephews & nieces to shop for. Every year I want to yank my hair out. Too many relatives!
Nephew #1 - Aged 22 - What could I possibly buy him? He likes music, cars, & baggy shirts. Nephew #2 - Aged 18 - Has wealthy parents so he has everything...except a car but I'm poor. LOVES football beyond belief. Hmmm...I guess a gift card to Best Buy or something like that. Nephew #3 - Aged 16 - Is a pain in the ass with a smart mouth that likes music & movies. Nephew #4 - Aged 15 - LOVES football so I guess something football related. Of course, clothes is always good b/c he's already 6' & weighs 250 lbs. Nephew #5 - Aged 12 - Sweet kid that is a musical prodigy & loves horror movies. Oy. Niece #1 - Aged 8 - Very girly & has an attitude. Niece #2 - Aged 7 - Total sweetheart & loves horses. Nephew #6 - Wealthy parents. Has everything & is spoiled beyond belief. He's a pain in the ass sometime when he doesn't get his way. Niece #3 - Age 1 - Anthing cute will work here I guess. |
Bobby, for your mom, check out Sephora (www.sephora.com). They've got TONS of bath gift sets that are on sale right now. L'Occitane gift sets would go well with her French theme.
BDEyes, for your nieces, check out the Silver Jewelry Club website (from that other thread). I got my 12-y-o niece a necklace from there. The jewelry is so inexpensive, that if a child breaks it or loses it, you're not out much $$$. |

As for other sports books: John Feinstein has a new book out: Next Man Up: A Year Behind the Lines in Today's NFL that looks interesting. If he likes hockey he can read The Boys of Winter about the 1980 US Olympic Hockey team. What teams is he a fan of? |
BetteDavisEyes, if your neices and nephews who like music have I-pods, then maybe an i-tunes gift card would be something they would like.
I pretty much think gift cards are always good gifts for anyone though. |

For nieces, sisters, mothers, aunts, and yourself ( :) ), there is a WONDERFUL online company for pearl jewelry: PearlsOnly.com. Scroll down to the Clearance Department, and you'll find absolutely gorgeous pearls, in classic strands of all lengths. I paid more for my faux pearls than these, and I swear, there is not a thing wrong with them! They're strung on silk, hand knotted, and come in white, cream, pink, and black (and some lavender) - you just can't look better in the gift giving department for less!
For guys, I found a Sportsmaster, which is a handheld electronic digest of any and all sports facts, and ESPN has a new game out. I'll post the links to those when I get home. My mother, who is THE world's hardest person to buy for ("save your money!"), I finally got her a birthday present that she likes this year - I don't expect her to be in love with anything I get her for Christmas, too! I got her this sweater with the faux fur collar, from Spiegel's: http://i18.ebayimg.com/04/i/05/2f/fa/a5_2.JPG |
I have two gift problems...
What do you get for a dad who is an engineer and fix-it guy around the house, who enjoys family and helping others, active in the church? He's so hard to shop for! And what about a busy guy who has everything? Owns his own house, is working on his third degree part-time and works at a pretty high level job for a large company and can buy whatever he wants? He has a couple of guitars stashed in one corner and is thinking about taking music up again... but he has a bunch of music books, the new IPOD nano.. I am at a loss. Also... Girls, if you are buying jewelry diamond.com is another good site with great deals on different types of jewelry! |

My parents will be getting art.
I have no idea what kind, but something to remind them that I am their favorite child. -Rudey |
