Trouble at Walt Disney Elementary: boxers or briefs?

A Tulsa parent is outraged over how her child was disciplined at school for wearing a costume.

Crystal Harris says her 5-year old son was forced to take off his costume, and go through the entire school day with only his underwear on.

The incident happened Monday at Walt Disney Elementary.

I smell legal action on this one. Dumb move on the part of the school.
(Wouldn't you think with a name like Disney they would be used to costumes?)

Apparently the school is in Springfield, MO. Pretty close to Tulsa, but still, more than an hour or two away... so I'm guessing this is a noncustodial parent?

Hoosier, I can't find this story anywhere.

I found a short little article on it. Has pretty much the same info as hoosier posted. http://2worksforyou.com/news/stories/underwear.shtml

Child disciplined for wearing Halloween costume to school

A Tulsa parent is outraged over how her child was disciplined at school for wearing a costume.

Crystal Harris says her 5-year old son was forced to take off his costume, and go through the entire school day with only his underwear on.

The incident happened Monday at Walt Disney Elementary.

School officials acknowledge they have a policy that forbids costumes, and that's why the teacher did what she did.

They say they've have apologized to the family.

Harris says however the teacher should be disciplined for embarassing her son.

Harris' son has not been back to school since the incident, and she says she's considering legal action.

I would too... atleast find spare clothes from the lost and found bin... or let him borrow someones jacket... or send him home... jeez, totally wrong decision there

I agree with clothes from the lost and found. When my son had an accident at school( Kindegarten) they sent him to the office to change clothes ...the office has loaners on hand if accidents happen. they should of made the child change out of the costume and given them loaner clothes til the next day to return them back.......i m sorry but were they or are they wanting legal action for making the child go around in just only underwear all day....they should of sent the child to the office called mom and mom come with regular clothes or taken jr home.

My question is -- where is the custodial parent in all of this? I'm certain that there has to be more to this than is apparent.

Sprinfield, MO and Tulsa are too far apart for this parent to be the one driving junior to school every day.

It seems like a kid walking around in his skivvies would be more offensive than a kid in a costume. But I don't know what the costume was, so...

Why would costumes on Halloween be forbidden at a school that's named after the happiest place on earth?
