Question about facebook

I know that it's possible for a college alumnus to sign up on facebook if they have a college e-mail address. What I'm wondering is: do any colleges allow their alumni to permanently keep their college e-mail address after graduation? I thought that it expired after a certain amount of time.

I'd like to check out facebook to see what all the fuss is about and to see if I can look up any of my chapter's DZ sisters. However, I've been out of college for a few years and don't think I can access it because of that. Do you think it would be possible for me to get a college e-mail address again after all this time???

Thanks in advance for any info you can give!

My school, and most other schools, transfer email addresses to a permanent alumni address and that's how people that have already graduated sign up.

I know that some campuses have special accounts for alumni who want a university-affiliated email address. For example, yourname@alumni.youralmamater.edu. You might want to contact your university's IT office (or whoever is in charge of distributing email accounts) to see if you can get one generated for you. I was able to keep my myname@hawaii.edu -- the same account I had in college. I just had to let them know that I wanted to keep it active.

Thanks for the info, y'all. I just sent an e-mail to my alma mater's IT department. Hopefully, they'll honor my request for an alumnus e-mail account. :)

Mine does this too, as do most schools my friends went to - although my boyfriend's is @uwalumni.com, not @wisc.edu, so he couldn't sign up.

I'm pretty sure the facebook accepts @uwalumni.com email addresses. At any rate, I have plenty of friends who have signed up with @uwalumni.com addresses.

LOL he's not that smart at the interwebz so that might be why it doesn't work. I'm always surprised at schools that don't give out some sort of free alumni email.

If you know anyone who is still at your school, they might be able to make a new e-mail acccount for you to use. Depends on whether your school lets you make multiple e-mail addresses (UNL did, but others might not).

Michigan State lets us use our e-mail for 3 years after we graduate, it's really nice and super easy to use, someone today saw me checking it and made a comment on how classy yet user friendlt it was.

IU lets alumni sign up for a personal email forwarding address: whatever@alumni.indiana.edu (replace the whatever with the name you pick), which forwards to the account of your choice. (Mine goes to my Yahoo account) That's what I used to sign up and there were no problems with that.
