what will happen?
Hi. I plan on rushing next semester. I am a freshman and we are not allowed to rush untill then at my school. I was wondering what kind of things I should expect. Any responce would be greatly apreciated. Thanks.

Sista, a someone who just went through rush a few months ago, lemme tell ya....you're gonna hear a lot of stuff about each sorority. You're gonna hear what reps they have, what guys they hang out with etc. Its ok to listen to what others have to say, but just remember you're gonna be the one in the sorority and you've got to choose who you feel comfortable around. Be sure you know how to dress for each night and even if your Rho Chi tells you its ok to wear pants, go for the skirt or dress. It'll look nicer and make a much better impression. Always sound interested, even if you've heard the same questions a bazillion times already. As the nights go along, the discussions are expected to get more in depth. For my school, skit night(normmally the night before prefs)was the time a lot of girls got cut because they didn't know to start asking more in depth questions to let the sorority know they were interested. If you've got a reasonable question, don't be afraid to voice it. Also, the most important thing: BE YOURSELF. Some girls may think they need to put on a show, but those sorority sisters can normally see that and they'll give you a bad report. If I gave any bad or incorrect advice, someone correct me. Good luck!

Thank you. You're advise was very helpful. I'm not a sista though. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/redface.gif It is different for fraterinites here you only rush one, there is no all togetherness but I will keep what you said about in depth questions in mind. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif

Unless of course you're talking about a HBGLO, then the process is totally different. Let us know which kind you are interested in and you will probably get more helpful responses. Although, I think you should probably definitely NOT wear a dress. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif |
Hey Young One, you might find it informative to check out the posts and the responses that I got in the Rush section. I too am considering joining a fraternity and you're right it is different than a sorority. However that doesnt mean that the info the nice sorotity sisters give you at this site is any less correct, just thought i'd help.

Thanks to everyone who responded. The one I want to rush at is an IFC fraternity. It is considered bad taste to go to the rush events of more than one fraternity here, but I already feel the one I am rushing is the right one for me. 33girl what is a HBGLO?

This is something about male rush I just don't get...I am definitely not saying NPC rush is perfect, but I think some aspects of it should be incorporated into IFC rush, like having to visit each fraternity AT LEAST once. I think a lot of guys make the choice too soon. One of the guys I dated pledged ABC who were the "top dogs" on campus, but ended up spending most of his time with XYZ who were ABC's next door neighbors. He would have been a lot happier pledging XYZ to begin with. |

The guys on this board give pretty good advice (when we ladies "let" them get a word in edgewise that is http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/wink.gif). Best of luck with your endeavor! |

YoungOne, just like AlphaGamGirl said be yourself! You're a guy & I'm sure you know how guys hate to be jerked around by some guy just trying to fit it. Eventhough you may be a little nervous, just try & be natural. I think your best beat would be to email the fraternity or even talk to some guys you may know or that are in your class. I did that, & eventhough it was for a sorority, I'm sure it'd work for you! Hope that helped! Oops in a big way!!! Sorry Young One=P Wasn't thinking and assumed you were a girl. I guess that's because most of the guys on my campus weren't really nervous about their Rush since it's so different. Still, be yourself. Also, I don't know how things go at your school, but at mine the guys pledge to the fraternity that takes them out drinking the most and stuff like that. Please don't let that be the deciding factor for what you pledge. A lot of guys regret this later on, trust me.

Thank you to all who repiled. I really appreciate your advice. AlphaGam, I'm not looking for just free beer. I feel like that I already have brothers somewhere I just need to find them http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif
