Mom Arrested in Bay Area Children's Deaths

SAN FRANCISCO - A woman who tossed her three young children off a pier into San Francisco Bay near Fishermen's Wharf has been arrested, authorities said Thursday, and the Coast Guard searched for the bodies of two of the children.


The body of a third child was recovered Wednesday.

Lashaun Harris, 23, of Oakland, was booked on three counts of murder and three counts of assault on a child with great bodily injury, according to Susan Fahey, spokeswoman for the San Francisco Sheriff's Department. Harris remained in custody early Thursday with no court date set, she said. Harris' children were identified as Trayshaun Harris, 6, Travante Greely, 2, and Joshua Harris, 1.

A child's body was found about four hours after a witness reported seeing a woman drop the children into the bay near Pier 7, said Jonathan Guerra of the Coast Guard. The body was not immediately identified.

This is why I have to refrain from watching the news at times. People just get sicker and sicker. :(

This woman was obviously dillusional and according to the article was on some type of medication for a mental illness. :(
Looks like she must have stopped taking it or it wasn't working, since the "voices" told her to do it. (she probably had schizophrenia).

:( sad. Mental illness is nothing to joke about.

Sounds like she needs some Risperdal. I am a counselor who helps patients get Risperdal -- medication for people with schizophrenia or bipolar.

I'm still mad though.

I read that she suffered from schizophrenia too. I have mixed emotions about this. I am aware that she could have been mentally ill but my heart crumbles for those babies. Lord...

Yeah, I think for me, knowing that she has a mental illness, does weaken my anger since I have had to study this group of people, but I can still be angry at her family for not stepping in to aid LaShaun and her kids, right? Right.

At first I was like - BURN THAT HEFFA!

Now I'm upset @ dad. Please dads - if mom has mental illness step in - in a big way - remove the kids from her care - give custody to someone else, pay attention to see if she's taking her meds.... do something.

I totally agree. I hope they did all that they could and didn't just shrugg of her issues. Mental illness is still taboo in the black community so I'm hoping they didn't blow it off with that "shrinks are for white folks" mentality, resulting in her not getting all the help she needed.

and those poor babies. :(

The same thing goes for her family members as well. Someone had to have know something wasn't quite right with her.

I agree with ya here, sisterfriend. I would love to be one of the first ones to administer and azz whupping.

I can also bet unlike Andrea Yates, they will sentence her to death

She might not if her medical file is pretty well documented with her mental illness history. She'll probably be confined to a mental institution for life though.

However, if this medical illness is not documented and a psychiatrist is unable to diagnose her as having one, she could very well face life in prison or be sentenced to death.

She just HAD to be BLACK!!!!!!
