Rant To A Woman Who Let Her Dog Run Free
 

We don't know you but my little girl and I were walking our dogs on leashes down our street. You and another woman were yapping in the front yard and your dog was running bigger and bigger circles in the yard. Then it happened--she ran out in the street and was hit and killed.:( :( :(

You began to scream like an animal. The woman who hit her pulled over and ran to you and you screamed that she did it on purpose. You screamed over and over about how much you'd loved that dog. We were still able to hear you a street away.

Lady, if you'd loved that dog, you wouldn't have let her run around free. Are you one of those losers who thinks that a dog is cheated if it can't run loose and express its nature? I feel sorry for you because your dog is dead but face it, it was your fault. There was no way that driver could've seen a white dog in the bright sunlight as she was turning the corner.

Now your dog is gone and you and the driver and my daughter and I will never, ever forget the sight or the noise of your dog getting hit. Never, ever, EVER.

Wow..that's rough. How's your daughter doing? That can be traumatic, especially for younger kids.

Wow that totally sucks Carnation. I had a similar experience on my block awhile back. Some dumb ass was talking on his cell phone not paying attention to his tiny, unleashed dog. I almost hit the dog when it ran out in front of my car. I parked and got out and asked him why he cared more about talking on his cell then the well-being of his pet. The guy started cursing ME out. There are so many unresponsible pet owners out there, it is frightening, especially to think that some of them are PARENTS of humans too:eek: :eek: :eek: .

If I had a nickle for everytime this happened I could retire. I always have to point out to the clients that the street is for cars and not dogs, cats, ferrets, snakes, rabbits, etc...I had a guy last month swear to me that he knows it was his neighbor that purposely swerved (sp?) to hit the dog and he was going to investigate and prove the neighbor did it. I was actually getting a bit frightened and I feel sorry for his neighbor, the guy seemed a bit off. The moral of the story is please keep your cats/ferrets/snakes in the house and dog on a leash. I have learned this difficult lesson as well with my own pets :(.

She keeps replaying it in her head and so do I, the scream, the thump, and then all that screaming.

Trojangal-- my daughter whom you met saw the same thing happen 2 years ago. I have never seen her totally fall apart in her life except that day.

Why do people insist on letting their dogs run loose?

There should be a place where people who do this can report these people - and laws to protect the poor animals who are owned by these freaks! I would lose it, if I saw such a thing!

One of my brother's Dobermans (they used to breed them) was visiting our office once, and while his back was turned, Caleb ran into the street. I actually ran in front of a car to keep him from being hit, which wasn't really smart on my part, but Caleb wasn't exactly car-smart, living on a farm and all.

That is awful. I know I will never forget the day that my neighbor was backing out of her garage and ran over their family dog while I was standing on the street at the end of the driveway. I don't think her young son ever truly got over that trauma.

People should also understand that dogs running loose also pose a threat to other animals. My poor cat was killed in our front yard a few years ago when a couple of dogs from a nearby subdivision got loose from their yard.

My old roomate ran over her dog two weeks ago. She has a circular drive in front of her house and normally pulls in the first entrance to park. The electric company was there and was parked in the first entry. So when she got home from work, she pulled into the second entrance. The dog liked to sleep in front of her car. She went out to go to work the next morning at 5Am when its still dark (and the dog was black) and she didnt see the dog in front of the car so she figured it was off on the property somewhere else. She gets in and drives off. Turns out it wasnt the car the dog was oriented to. it was the driveway and street. She drove over the dog and crushed its pelvis. The dog had to be put down. It was 17 years old and had some other troubles, but its sad none the less. She's a hard -ass (my old roomie) but I felt really bad for her. She was really shaken up by it.

We have a SERIOUS problem with this in my neighborhood. I always see a loose dog. Like one or two per day.

As I said, my brother lives on a small farm (35 acres), and there's only 2 neighbors within a mile. The one neighbor's dogs ATE one of their cats; the other one got away, but not after they took off half her tail, and my brother found claw marks all the way down the deck...

Neither dogs nor cats should be allowed to roam free outside. It's just not safe.

The idea was that the cats should be taking care of the mice in the barn; their grounds are well fenced. But now, Micsha stays inside.

It's funny - if anyone even mentions the name of the dog next door, Micsha holds up her one paw, as if to say, "look what he did to me!"

I feel sorry for the dog, not that lady. People really need to be responsible for their animals.

I will never forget the day I watched my own dog get run over by a pickup truck. It was seriously horrible, especially since I was only 4 at the time. She'd run out of the house when my mom opened to door to yell for me and made a beeline for the street...there was no way the poor man who hit her could've stopped in time. He felt sooooo bad...I remember him helping us carry her to the car so we could take her to the vet, even though I was bawling my eyes out. It really isn't fun when stuff like that happens.
