Fraternities and CEOs
 

Although it is a couple of years old, here is a very interesting piece about Greeks in the corporate arena. I don't want to be confused with another poster of inane articles, so please forgive me if this has been posted before.

How do fraternities and sororities most help college graduates climb the corporate ranks?
_ __ By forming social skills
_ __ By shaping moral character
_ __ By providing an alumni network
_ __ They are not of much help at all

I'd vote for "social skills", but my real belief is "the opportunity to fail" and hopefully learn from it. There's no other campus organization with a real budget of $100,000+, real projects, and real decisions about scheduling, housing, food service, and big parties.

Just to clarify...;)
Sandy Weill, the CEO of Citigroup which is the #1 company in the Forbes ranking, is an AEPi.

However, in terms of #of CEO's per group from the list:
"Beta Theta Pi can boast of 11 such CEOs, Sigma Alpha Epsilon and Sigma Chi are tied in second at nine, Lamba Chi Alpha has eight, and Alpha Tau Omega seven"

FYI, my boss, the CEO of my company, is an AEPi. No offense, Rudey, but he's a jerk! :p

We have many other CEOs in AEPi if that means anything. Of course certain private firms and banks which I think are much more prestigious than the ones listed, and have CEOs of several other GLOs, aren't listed by Forbes.

I am not sure what the actual percentage of college graduates are greek (throughout time), but I bet the percentage of greeks that are CEO's is greater than the percentage of greeks coming out of college....IE, if you follow me, greeks are generally better leaders.

Actually Most are and especiall Founders of Companies.

The reporter misspelled Lambda Chi Alpha in the body of the article.

I find it interesting that some 'big five' groups who do a lot of swaking about being 'big five' are absent from the list.

That might have something to do with a lot of the Fortune 500 companies being founded prior to the founding of the 'big 5'. lol :)

I was surprized to discover that the guy, Thomas Cruickshank (sp?), who replaced Vice President Cheney as Chairman of Halliburton is a Delt.

I think I'll just stop there without comment.

My dad is a CEO of a fairly large small company (if that makes any sense). :) He is a Delta Sigma Pi.

Haha, nice wording in that article. I love how the fraternities "spawned" political leaders.

And I voted for social.

Honestly, there are a lot of ways to measure things like that. Some orgs have members who were successful in other areas. I think it's great that the fraternities listed have such successful alums, but I never put too much stock in things like this (even when it benefits my own fraternity).
