Yankees fall to "Carpetbagger Curse"

For the fifth time in as many years, the New York Yankees will not win the World Series. They were eliminated from the playoffs yesterday when they lost a five-game series to the Los Anaheim California Angels.

The Yanks' last world championship came in October 2000, just before Hillary Clinton, who falsely claimed to have been a lifelong Yankee fan, won a Senate seat. This is known as the "Carpetbagger Curse"--though at least it's not as bad as Boston's "Curse of the Bimbino."

The Red Sox, also eliminated the other day, have won only one World Series in the rocky 21 years since Massachusetts elected John Kerry** to the Senate.

Um ok? I don't know what to say to this but thanks Hillary.

hoosier...

What curse can we blame you being on GC?

KSigkid 10-12-2005 06:56 AM

As much as I'd like to blame outside forces on the Yankees falling in the playoffs, I think internal problems may have had a bit more to do with it.

DeltAlum 10-12-2005 10:01 AM

So, how many teams are in MLB these days?

Why is it so amazing that any given team (even one with a storied past like the Yankees) haven't won the World Series for five whole years?

How many other teams are in that position?

That points to something closer to parity than politics.

So, the bullpen had nothing to do with the failiure? What curse can I blame for the way the Yankees performed in the 80s?

How many other teams cost that much to build?

I think you mean Curse of the BAmbino.

Curse of the Bimbino sounds like something that would happen if Tara Reid was sleeping with your shortstop.

Wait, wasn't she sleeping with Jeter at one point? Or am I completely making that up?

I think a Bimbino is defined as a man who seeks power, glory, and especially money by marrying a rich ketchup heir.

If you think there's anything resembling 'parity' in professional baseball, you're sorely mistaken - the nature of baseball, and the addition of the wild card, have made more teams feel like they're in it . . . but 3/4 teams in each league made the playoffs last year, including last year's champions, 3 of the last 5 champions, and 7 of the last 10.

3 of the 4 remaining teams made the playoffs last year.

Parity in baseball is nonsense.

Greekchat falls to "Stupid-Thread Curse"

For the fifth time in as many minutes, Greekchat will not go without a stupid thread. A lack of stupid threads was eliminated yesterday when another stupid thread was started, this one attempting to show a non-existent relationship between an annoying baseball team and politics.

Greekchat's last stupid thread came just days earlier, when somebody asked about transferring schools in California. This is known as the "Stupid-Thread Curse"-- though at least it's not as bad as Boston's "Curse of the Bimbino."

The Dating and Relationships Forum, also the victim of stupid threads, has had at least 50 stupid threads since Antonin Scalia** took a seat on the Supreme Court.

That's true, but I'll still hold by my comment that this has more to do with parity than politics.
