Computer Troubles

I've been having trouble with my computer for a couple of weeks now. It started out as just some annoying pop-ups, so I ran both Ad-Aware and Spybot. That didn't work, so after running both numerous times, I'm still getting those annoying pop-ups. I honestly thought I had some kind of spyware that's next to impossible to get rid of.

Well, a couple of days ago, I realized that I couldn't find a whole bunch of my music files. Today, all the pictures in the "My Pictures" folder are missing. So I'm thinking, yeah, I'm probably dealing with a virus of some sort. So I ran McAfee. Nothing. I ran a couple of those free scans online. Nothing. Now I'm really getting angry, and my background won't even display because it's been deleted.

Can anyone suggest some good virus software? I don't mind paying for it, but I want to know what's good enough to catch this pain in the ass I've managed to acquire before I shuck out the money. (Well, I'm assuming it's a virus. Since my stuff has been disappearing, that's what I'm calling it.) Something less than $30-$40 would be great. I just need some advice before I lose everything I have on this stupid computer! Thanks!

You should try Microsoft Anti-Spyware Beta1. It's pretty effective in searching for spyware. It'll find spyware that Ad-Aware overlooks! Microsoft has a free download on their website. Also, Norton Anti-Virus is very good when it comes to detecting viruses. It may run you about $30-$50. Hope that helps.

That sounds more like a trojan than a spyware program.

Get a good virus scan while you're at it. Norton is good I hear. Also, a decent firewall like ZoneAlarm can be helpful.
