Does anyone have any experience with affiliate programs?

What are they? It sounds scammy to me.

Basically you advertise on your personal website for a company. If somebody makes a purchase from them and they went through your website you get a small percentage of the sale.

Anyone??

I'd have to agree.

Unless your personal website gets that much traffic (few personal websites do), even if it was legit you'd get maybe a few pennies.

Put your time and energy into finding a real job instead.

I am on the Amazon Affiliates program. I don't really make any money from it, but I also don't exploit it to the best of my ability.

I've only ever seen it through non-profit websites. Amazon has a big one I think. I always seem to see the amazon.com link and if you buy something through that site, then that organization gets money....

Yes...I am the webmaster for a charitable group & we have joined a few programs. The group does not make much money from the programs, but we try!
