I just found that Alpha Xi Delta's Alpha Delta chapter at Oregan State will be closing at the end of the year. This is really sad.

I thought they were going to reorganize?

According to my Big Sister that's an ELC and was at Oregan for past 4 week said a VP just told them this past week or so.

sad... girls from my chapter used to go down to OSU to help with recruitment and always had the most wonderful experiences... :(

After decades of stability, Greek enrollment is on major decline

Greek leaders point to stigmas, changes among new students as contributors to the decline

Oregon State enrollment is on the rise, but fewer students are opting to join the Greek system, according to recent numbers released by the office of Greek Life.

With 19,236 full time students at OSU, the 41 Greek houses account for 1,669 students — roughly nine percent.

Since 1975, the Greek population at OSU was steady with small, inconsequential declines. The numbers always rebounded shortly after.

In 1991, the population of the Greek system dropped by nearly 400 students — leaving the community unable to rebound back to comfortable numbers — which were close to 3,000 in 1975 when the total enrollment at OSU was just above 15,000.

Some Greek leaders say misconceptions and ties to family have contributed to the decline.

“Parents of the millennium students went to school during the “Animal House” era and think that is what all fraternities are like,” said Interfraternity Council President Brent Atkinson, a member of Phi Delta Theta.

“Both sororities and fraternities are facing a decline in recruitment numbers,” said Panhellenic Council President Melissa Killian, of Sigma Kappa.

Atkinson added that numbers for men have leveled off.

The community’s numbers have gone up slightly but not enough to bring them back to where they were 30 years ago.

“We are not recruiting the same students we were 10, 20 even 30 years ago,” said Killian.
