The play premeried (sp??) in Atlanta and I saw it. It was very good and a lot closer to the book than the movie, IMO.
|
I believe the cast will appear on Oprah's 20th Anniversary Show on Monday.
|
I'm watching the sneak preview on the show right now and...Wow! I would absolutely love to see this.

I attended this show during the first week it was in San Francisco. It was absolutely terrific!
It runs through Dec. 9 in San Francisco. Here's a bit about the touring cast: Jeannette Bayardelle who joined the tour from the Broadway production, as the lead character Celie, along with fellow Broadway cast-mate Felicia P. Fields. Fields originated the role of Sofia, for which she received a Tony Award nomination. Michelle Williams, former member of best-selling female R&B group Destiny's Child, appears in the role of Shug Avery. Celie's sister Nettie is played by local SF Bay Area performer LaToya London of "American Idol" fame. |
The Color Purple on Broadway
My Husband and I saw this in June and we were blown away by fantasia.
She did a Hell of a Job with playing Celie. I am really glad that Broadway is opening up to black plays now. The showing we wnet to was sold out and we were right above the stage, but this book/movie are still my favorites. :) |
