I need some hair help.

I have very straight hair that doesn't want to do anything but just sit there. It falls out of any updo or curls I try putting it in.

I have a big party that I'm going to this weekend and I want to be able to give my hair some form of body. I have hair curlers but my hair never wants to stay put after I use them.

Does anyone has recommendation on how to keep my hair wavy for over 5 minutes?!

I do not have stick straight hair, but I will try to help you as best I can. I would say to try this:

Wash your hair and leave it wet. Then part your hair into small sections and use mousse (is that how it is spelled?) to braid your hair with. Braid all of your hair like this and let it dry while in this style. Hopefully when your hair dries and you unbraid it, it should be wavy. The mousse should have helped the wave stay put. If you want bigger waves, then make the parted sections of your hair bigger.

Use a volumizing Shampoo and mousse. You have to use product, but a little dab'll do ya! Don't go overboard. If your hair is long, the sheer weight of all that hair will keep curl from staying in. Sometimes, the texture of hair (fine or coarse) will determine if curl will stay in or not. For example, my hair is straight as a board, very thick, and very fine. If my hair is clean (i.e. just washed and dried) it is harder to style ( I do use mousse and gel, hairspray, etc. everyday). For someone with hair that is more coarse, it can be styled easier, just because of the texture.

What are some of the steps I should take before putting in the hot rollers? Should my hair be dry or damp? Should I put the mousse in before the rollers or after?

There's a product called Hair Cement by Fudge hair products that a stylist used on my hair for a wedding. She sprayed it on each section of hair before she curled it with a curling iron and the curls stayed for literally 2 days. At first it was a little stiff, but after and hour or so they looked great. Products are key for making your hair stay.

I have beyond stick straight. and it never holds a curl, with out lots of encouragement.
One thing I have found is to sleep with soft curlers in... think 1950's TV show.
the other thing I have found is to use lots and lots of product if you are going to use hot curlers. First "prime" your hair with a curl enhancer or a gel or mouise. I like moise... because gel makes my hair hard. Leave the curler in your hair until they completely cool, you can leave them in longer if you want. Then after rolling the curls down (if its not curly enough you can use a curler.) then spray the heck out of it!! with professional spray..

My hair is extra straight as well. I usually take a shower, blow dry it completely, put in mousse(extra hold thermasilk), dry the hair again, spray the section of hair with hairspray(aerosol works best in IMO)use hot rollers, leave in until they get cool/cold (20-30 minutes) then remove and spray again. Thus far, that is the ONLY way I can get curls to stay in my hair.

I don't have stick straight hair but no matter how I style my hair it cannot stand the humidity!

If I want to wear my hair in any variation of curls/waves I usually sleep w/ rollers in my hair. How tight you pull the hair around the roller, how small/big the rollers are all effect what your curls/waves look like the next day. I wash & dry my hair & then use plastic rollers for curls & sponge rollers for waves (I have varying sizes of both.)

I absolutely hate putting any sort of product in my hair & wearing the rollers to bed seems to help me get around that. Good luck!

I have super straight very fine hair, and it takes hours of styling to keep any type of curl in. I've found a volumizer that works awesome--it's available at Sally's Beauty supply stores--it's calle ION, and it's heat activated, best used with blow dryer. It's about $5 a bottle, but a little bit goes a long way.

The right cut makes all the difference--super long hair/long hair will pull out all the curls.

Yup! ION is great. And like she said, you also want to pay attention to how your hair is cut. If you like volume, you need some sort of layering, or the length will just draaaaag the hair down.

I used to curl my hair all the time, but here in the last few years I've come to appreciate my straight hair--after all, we have naturally what so many other people have to buy tons of smoothing products to get. ;)

Ha Ha, I was thinking the same thing, I pay 600$ every 6-9 months to make sure my hair is stick straight. No more curls for me.

as someone with stick straight hair who got sick of having a boring hairstyle, I finally decided to get layers in this summer. It really does add some kind of volume to it, and when you pull your hair back, a few whisps are stuck in the front and it looks cute especially if you have an oval face like I do.

After you wash, spray this on your damp/wet hair and let air dry. It can be used with other products. Its really light but works.
