Ghost GLO

Awhile back I brought up the fact of ghost or underground Greek organizations. Basically a chapter loses the charter and continues to operate, or worse they merge with other groups and become an underground local.
I was ridiculed and was bluntly called a liar that these do not exist. I just wanted to prove that at my school they do exist and are quite the problem. My original question was- what do you do about it? What does your school do about it?

See for yourself.

How is this being a baby? You asked for proof, I gave you proof. Some of you people are just so mean, you really give greek life a bad name. No wonder there are so many stereotypes.

If you know of a group operating in secret-- that is, they have lost recognition by the university and have had their national charter revoked, please contact the campus Greek Adviser (or if there is no Greek Adviser, contact the office of the Dean of Student Activities). Please also contact the HQ of that national group-- you may find their contact information on the web.

ETA: Per the link you provided, the university is aware of this and has made an official statement, discouraging students from joining.

If these unrecognized locals cause you personal harm, I advise you to take it up with the appropriate student disciplinary council. That aside, encourage your fellow students to participate in activities that are recognized by the university.

Have these organizations caused you personal harm or discomfort? I believe your school has addressed the situation, and there is no more cause for question.

They are fully aware of it, hence the post they put on the schools homepage. They just have not been able to resolve the issue. Lambda Chi Gentlemans Club has been operating since 1994 or so. That is just one example. The wanna bee ASA group has been going strong underground for almost 9 years. It upsets me, I dont know why it does, but it does. I don't think it is right. Especially when real greeks associate with them as far as mixers and stuff.

Yes you did.

Do you want a cookie?

If you would have come on and posted this before, no one would have said anything - but instead, you posted rumors and unfounded accusations (things like "I don't know whether they are really gone from campus" etc). When part of your information is questionable or wrong, people aren't going to be inclined to believe anything else you say.

The school has acknowledged it. They've done all they can do. The HQs have all been notified. What more do you want? Human sacrifice?

I have notified ASA HQ and sent them the link, however as said before, they've probably been notified by the univeristy.

Ditto what she said. You're not gonna get any cookies from us.

You came on here with nothing but rumors and wouldn't give any details. You were questioned about what you were saying and you didn't really give clear answers. You were rude and nasty in your replies to any questions.

WTF do you want? The school and the GLOs know what's going on.

No human sacrifice but a chocolate chip cookie would be nice....

I believe this site has been recently added because there are more underground fraternites now than recognized ones and that is a shame.

WHAT???

A 2.5 second look at SRU's website shows 7 recognized fraternities and 9 recognized sororities. (total = 16)

The link you posted shows 1 unrecognized sorority and 3 unrecognized fraternities. (total = 4)

See, this is the kind of crap that I'm talking about.

Amalia17 09-29-2005 12:57 PM

But aren't you bothered that someone or some group who is not affiliated has your ritual, is wearing your letters that you earned, and is passing themselves off as someone they are not?

AXiDTrish 09-29-2005 01:00 PM

I'll probably get grilled for this, but if the university knows they're there and IF (that's a big IF) the national groups would like to re-esatablish a chapter, why would the university not try to allow the recolonization the chapters. The university could reign them in at that point, institute the appropriate rules and the national orgs could enforce (sp) their policies.

I mean if they are already recruiting, then why not just make it official and save all the heartache. Then again I sometimes live in a dream world and this could be completely impossible! :D

Of course she'd be bothered, but short of driving up there and beating them up (ROADTRIP! Sheila let's do it!) she can't do a thing about it. The HQ and school know about it. Are we supposed to set up snipers to take them out any time they get together?

WHAT DO YOU WANT?

WHY DO YOU CARE?

See, this is the kind of crap that I'm talking about.

I am not couting the nationally "black" groups since here they seem to be their own separate entity. They function in a different way.
There are 4 IFC fraternities:
Theta Xi
Alpha Sigma Phi
Phi Kappa Pi
Pi Kappa Alpha

The groups who act as undergrounds call themselves:
Lambda Chi
KDR
Phi Kappa Theta
Crows
Phi Delta Omega

So that makes 5 underground, 4 recognized IFC.
