Lavaliere question

Hi everyone,

I have a silly question for you all... My niece (who is a very happy Delta Zeta) was just lavaliered last week!! She wants to wear her boyfriend's lavaliere as a dangle on her badge, and she asked me if this is proper "badge etiquitte." Does anyone know if she can do this? Back when I was lavaliered, I wore it as a regular necklace (as did the other women in my chapter). I really don't know what to tell her.

Just as an aside... when I was lavaliered, it was tradition for the man to send flowers (6 Killarney roses and 6 of his fraternity flower) to our chapter president to announce the occasion. Then, the flowers were presented to the lucky sister at her Candle Pass. Did anyone else do this? When I told my niece about this, she said it was "so old-fashioned." Man... I feel ancient!!

Thanks in advance for your input on this!!

I've never heard of this, but I'm going to say no. I looked through everything I have on this subject, and while I can't find anything against it, I can't find anything for it, either. Our badge is the symbol of our sisterhood, so let's keep it "sisters only." But congrats to her for getting lavaliered!

And I must say, I love the idea of the flowers to annouce a lavalier! I don't think it's outdated one bit!

I've only ever seen guys' lavaliers worn on necklaces.

Back in my day...

No one wore fraternity letters on their badge. Some would wear the fraternity lavalier and sorority lavalier on the same necklace, though.

I did see girls who were pinned link the fraternity pin and sorority pin by entwining the guard chains. Pinning ceremonies were so awesome!

The flowers idea sounds lovely, but I never saw it done.

I love the flower idea! So romantic, and if it's considered old-fashioned, then I think the new girls are missing out!! :D

I agree not to put it on the badge. I am lavaliered and I wear the letters on a necklace. plus you want to show em off...if they are on your badge then you would have to keep taking it off and putting it on a necklace. When I was lavaliered my big got me flowers but nothing of that nature...cute idea though!

P.S. Lavaliered by which fraternity?

Thank you all for your responses! I told my niece that the consensus is not to put it on her badge, and I gave her a gold chain to put the lavaliere on. She was thrilled...

I asked her where she got the idea to put it on her badge, and she said that some girls in her chapter do it that way, but their advisor hates the idea.

Also... thanks for all of your well-wishes for my niece. Ashley is happily lavaliered to a wonderful member of Kappa Sigma.
