RUSTON, La. (AP) -- Tulane football players, who are staying at Louisiana Tech in the wake of Hurricane Katrina, and members of Kappa Alpha fraternity are being investigated for a fight that occurred during a party at the frat house, Ruston police reported.
Police answered a 911 call Saturday night. They were told by fraternity members that Tulane players entered the fraternity house and became involved in an altercation. During the fight, two of the fraternity members and a female guest suffered minor injuries.

The alleged incident stems from a disagreement that started Friday night when a football player apparently tried to gain entrance into a Kappa Alpha "Bid Night" party. "Members of the KA fraternity advised him that it was a 'closed' party and that he needed to leave," Sgt. Curtis Hawkins said. "Tempers then flared and the individual reportedly became angry and left the area."
The next night football players allegedly entered the fraternity house and a fight started.
Ruston Police are currently working with Tech and Tulane officials to determine the details and identities of the participants. No charges were filed as of Tuesday.
KA faculty adviser Gary Stokley said he doubts arrests will be made. "It's a tricky situation," Stokley said. "We're a host to the Tulane football team and students from all over southern Louisiana. So it's an unfortunate situation."
Stokley said he spoke with Tulane football coach Chris Scelfo and all parties are "upset" about the situation. Tulane Athletic Director Rick Dickson said university officials will allow Tech to conduct its investigation and handle the situation internally.
"These Tulane student-athletes are visiting students at Louisiana Tech and will be held accountable by both institutions for their actions," Dickson said. "Both institutions set high standards of behavior for their students, and the high expectations and standards of both universities will serve as a guideline for us in dealing with this matter."

Meaning that the football players will be told not to do that again, maybe run some laps while the fraternity receives a suspended charter?

If I was in a fraternity that was being harassed by very large football players, I would call the cops. Who the heck wants to fight guys that big?

Very astute!

Just to muddy the waters, were the Tulane guys KAs or unaffiliated? I would be surprised if Tulane guys from other houses tried to crash a KA function. I would also be surprised if the local KAs turned out a Tulane KA. Since the Green Wave tends to be strongly Greek I would also be surprised if these guys were GDIs. Anybody have any more info?

They are screwed either way. If they call the cops they will be busted for having a party.

I'm not sure if they will or won't be.

But if the cops will show up either way, I would think most people would rather it be first before some large guys with "soft hands" smash in their jaws.

Odd as it may seem, most of the Tulane football team is unaffiliated... very few athletes (at least male) go greek... in fact, I can't think of any greek athletes off the top of my head. Not meaning they don't exist, but...

From what I understand, they just really don't have the time.

That is true, somewhat. Britney Hurst (volleyball) became a member of AKA (O Psi chapter) a few years ago. I understand a BBall player attended their rush last week. We will see what happens.

The football players I knew from TU did not become members of a GLO. They did graduate, though. :D :p

Although this article is old, I am new to this site and a La Tech alum. If I remember correctly, the Kappa Alpha Order house is directly behind Hutchinson "Enter the Hut, Leave as a Slut" dorm, where all the male athletes live. There used to be incidents with the KA and athletes all the time... at least when I was there. So I am not surprise by this at all..lol

Also, Dr. Stokley was my Sociology professor during my first quarter at Tech. He was a character...(dayum, I can't believe I remember him and he is still there...lol)

You know, I've been looking all over for a doormat with that slogan...the looks I get when asking about it at places like Target range from incredulous to outright disgust.
