ELC Visit

This past weekend we had a visit from an ELC named Jason Holt. This was an excellent meeting. Not only did Jason spend time with us helping us out with Watermelon Bust that weekend, but he took the time to talk with every associate, and member - officer or not. He is in charge of the midwest area I beleive, so if you are in this area expect a great visit from a brother who truly cares.

Not sure if this is the first time on GC but if is Welcome!!!!

Da Cape Eh!:D

IHQ has not only a new Ex. VP but a Director of Chapters and both are Excellent with a New Outlook on What LXA IHQ should be doing and are hiring to fit their thinking.

While I have not had the opportunity to meet any New ELCs, I am sure P G & G run through their veins and want to help.

I have had dealings with Bill Farkas and John Holloway and both are great to talk with and work with.:)

As each new Head of running the day to day comes aboard, they have their own ways of doing things and there are many things that will be coming in the future.

Just remember, ELCs are mostly New Also and get training to work with Zetas. They are Brothers none the less, Not Police of Zetas. Their Job is there to work with each Zeta that they have responibility to work with.

Work with Them as much as possible.!

It's good to here positive remarks directed at the actions and dedication of an ELC... 'cause I believe they need that reinforcement during the year - too often they are treated as the "NARC", a person to be distrusted because they are seen as a representative of IHQ sniffing around (of course this is with the cavet that I have seen the good, the bad, and the ugly when it came to ELCs).

Of course this ignores theur primary and invaluable role as both neutral observer and trouble-shooter... both roles that I think no chapter can dismiss lightly. Even at their worst an ELC brings with him a plethora of knowledge and a variety of viewpoints that can be applied to an issue within the chapter - you just have to use the ELC and his knowledge intelligently.

So to sum up - if the ELC is bad let IHQ know... and if he is a good ELC let the Chapter, IHQ, and the ELC know.

Coop otehr than you Earp Typoing Your Point is very well taken and should be posted back to IHQ and ELC!:)

Oh, is that Candian Typing?;)

RACooper 09-27-2005 01:08 AM

No just drunk typing - friend of mine from the University of the South brought his new kid around campus and the pub :) Just celebrating his kid and his new teaching position... I consider him a "honourary" in my eyes; his roomie in college was Ashton Mount at Sewanee.

Jason is a great guy. I was International Ritual Team with him last summer. If anyone else gets him say hi for me.

Tom Earp 09-27-2005 04:01 PM

:D Coop can relate, do some of My best thinking then but worst Typoing!

Matt, from what I am getting with My small workings with IHQ, the New Leadership is trying to promote a totally different attitude within all Staff Members and is a very pleasent change.
But of course, it will take some time to implement.

But, the whole idea is to look upon existing Zetas that need Help, work with them and still continue to work to recolonize and seek new Schools for Colonizations. A Large task to say the least.

But as each of the above grow, so will We all.

jason

I love the fact that me and my brother get mixed up so much. The ELC Jason is my older (blood & fraternity) brother. I have talked to him a bunch since he has been on the road and he has told me nothing but good things about his chapters in his region.

He definitley is a very dedicated and pattionate person. He was the same way when he was an active member of our chapter and still remains that way as an alumni. Ohh and EM that was me with you on IRT. My name is Jarod...I guess you can get those two names mixed up some times. Hopefully I will be doing that this summer because I want to apply to be an ELC since I am graduating this May.

But its good to see things are going good. I have heard nothing but good things about the ELC's this year. But I am most interested in meeting my ELC Chris Hall.

Sorry didn't mean to get you two confused. I just remembered the j and the last name. I'm sure he's still a good guy though.
Thanks for the correction and good luck on the ELC position.

Jason was at Alpha Delta a few weeks back, and I too thought he was a great guy. Very enthusiastic, easy to talk to, great Brother.

Hey guys,

Tom you said a very positive point that I am happy to hear.

"He is hiring to fulfill his vision"

I just like the idea of IHQ actually having a vision and hiring the RIGHT people to accomplish it. That's what we need. Not a patchwork quilt of ideas and fabric of different styles and texture.

You can't fit a square peg into a round hole.

Tom Earp 10-28-2005 04:08 PM

Both Jason and Josh Lodolo were down at LX Zeta to survey and work with The Alums and what few Actives We have at the moment, all of the comments were of a very positive nature from the Alums that worked with them!

Just wish I could have been there to meet with them also.

The report has been written and someone not sure how many will be back in Feb. to work on Recruitment with us.

There is a lot on their shoulders with all that is going on along with the cut backs and trying to grow at the same time. A doubled edged sword so to speak.

But with Young Brothers such as these two and the current Leadership at IHQ, I think and strongly feel that there is a Bright Light at the end of the tunnel.

Just had our ELC visit last week. I really enjoyed it..The ELC really just put everything out on the table..within three short days he could tell what was going with the chapter..That's awesome!

Drew1520 11-23-2005 11:02 PM

You can definitely see the difference at IHQ especially since our house is 10 minutes away...Bill Farkas is an excellent man, and being an AAZ alumnus our zeta went to his home last week and talked about experiences and what not, and we had George Spasyk over for dinner and he talked about LCA History, that was awesome. Also, John "Biff" Holloway and Tim Reuter have come by the house a few times this semester and are also really great individuals. They hired three of our undergrad brothers as interns for IHQ. Also, the ELC's are doing a great job...we played campus golf with Mitch Woods while he was here.

GammaZeta 11-23-2005 11:14 PM

I'm glad you had a good ELC visit.

One suggestion I would have would be to actually limit their "policing" powers.

When we had visits, we were always paranoid that even the tiniest, smallest violation would land us in probation. We were usually paranoid because the smallest violation of any policy usually DID land us on probation, which wasn't fair.

We would have had alot better experience and got alot more out of our ELC visits if we didn't have to worry about what we said or what he saw or what he heard.

If there was a degree of confidentiality with their visits, and not a "I'M TELLING IHQ ON YOU" mentality, then I think it would be alot more useful.

I'm really just trying to say is that maybe we should limit the policing powers of ELC's a little bit to help the brother relax and really learn from them.
