Georgia schools closing due to gas crisis
I just learned that Gov. Perdue is closing Georgia's schools on Monday and Tuesday due to the gas crisis. Are any other states doing this? Just curious.
|
I hadn't heard that yet, and I sort of work with schools nationwide. hmmm, why can't I get a day off???
|
Did all of the schools serve Chili for lunch today?
But seriously, is the crisis really that bad? No problem here that I'm aware of -- except the price. |
From the AJC website: "If all of Georgia's schools close, the governor estimated about 250,000 gallons of diesel fuel would be saved each day by keeping buses off the road."
He's also limited non-essential travel by state employees, and is trying to get people in government positions to telecommute as much as possible. |
What the heck.
Oil dropped hard in the last few days because Rita was downgraded. At the same time most other sectors suffered - partially because of the oil - and they're not going back up. Supposedly the economy is growing, but the markets have stayed flat so what's up with that? -Rudey --Someone, show me the money. |

But you're right, and, at least today, gas prices are still going down here. I guess how badly the Gulf Coast installations are hit will impact what happens there. |
Huh? We haven't heard this! I need to know if the kids will be out!
|
As if Georgia schools need a reason to close. If anything, they need to find ways to stay open as long as they possibly can.

Gas prices have jumped significantly in Tennessee...

I can only imagine that many other states will be following Georgia's days off from school as well. Wish I was still teaching.:( :o |

I saw in the paper today where some counties here in Kentucky are shortening the school week to 4 days, giving kids the day off on Friday. Teachers would work half a day. It's an effort to save money spent on diesel for the buses, so we'll see how that plays out...it's kinda interesting, because apparently some school districts have done it out west for a long time and it's worked really well.
Gas here jumped from $2.49 to $2.69 today. |
Glad I filled up this morning...
|
Georgia Tech promptly send out an email saying they would be OPEN...dammit!
Incidently, there is a group called PUMP in MI who leading a petition drive to prevent gas stations from changing their prices more than once a week. If they get enough signatures, it will be on the 2006 ballot. |
Gas is only $2.69? I wish... I just paid $2.99 here...and $3.07 two weeks ago. And it was $2.49?
We are all getting screwed here...not just in CA either. This is friggin ridiculous. If it wouldn't take 2 hours I would take the bus to work and be done with it. |
