Girl expelled from school because of lesbian parents...
Sad...
"School Expels Girl for Having Gay Parents ONTARIO, Calif. (Sept. 23) - A 14-year-old student was expelled from a Christian school because her parents are lesbians, the school's superintendent said in a letter. Shay Clark was expelled from Ontario Christian School on Thursday. "Your family does not meet the policies of admission," Superintendent Leonard Stob wrote to Tina Clark, the girl's biological mother. Stob wrote that school policy requires that at least one parent may not engage in practices "immoral or inconsistent with a positive Christian life style, such as cohabitating without marriage or in a homosexual relationship," The Los Angeles Times reported in Friday's edition. Stob could not be reached for comment by the newspaper. Shay and her parents said they won't fight the ruling. School administrators learned of the parents' relationship this week after Shay was reprimanded for talking to the crowd during a football game, Tina Clark said. Clark and her partner have been together 22 years and have two other daughters, ages 9 and 19." |
I don't even know where to begin...but I guess the good part is that Shay won't be educated by these people. I guess they think it's consistent with a positive Christian lifestyle to judge others and effectively punish a child for her parents' conduct.

Its a private school, so they can do it.
I'm sure her parents read the paperwork/policies BEFORE sending their daughter to this school, which makes me wonder why they would send her there in the first place? For some reason, I feel as if its a set-up to test the school's admission. It like if I sent my daughter to an Islamic school that had rules stating that one parent had to be a Muslim (which neither me nor my fiance are ) and they kicked her out because we didn't comply. ETA: Ok, it says they weren't going to fight the ruling, but I'm still  as to why they would send her there in the first place knowing the school's policy? |
Oh, I agree that they can do it. However, I reserve the right to talk smack about them for being assholes.

Maybe the public school alternatives suck.
Or, maybe they would like their child(ren) exposed to Christian values -- even though they may disagree on just what Christian values are. We certainly don't all agree on the latter. It also appears to me that they are quoting the superintendent's letter -- not the school policy, per se -- in the article. We don't know if the policy is clearly stated in the application. Finally, why do you suppose only one parent has to adhere to whatever values the school believes in? |

I heard about this on the radio and I live right by Ontario...lets just say its not the nicest of towns, the Ontario airport is pretty much all that the town has going for it so I can see how parents might send their child to a school despite the fact that they are not in sync with their policies in order for their child to receive a better education.
I'm not saying I agree with any of the decisions made here but its unfortunate that the child suffers as a result of all this... |
It's a shame that the parents knew how the child would feel if she was kicked out of school, and enrolled her in a school that would kick her out for a rule they chose to violate.
The school has every right to do this and the entire blame is with the parents. -Rudey --Why is it that so many people are so closed-minded that they refuse to even allow someone else to follow their beliefs? |

I find the talking to the crowd during a football game thing odd, too. Do they have some sort of football vow of silence? |
There are biblical reasons for divorce, so no, being a divorced parent isn't necessarily contrary to a positive Christian lifestyle.
Maybe she was yelling dirty cheers? LoL I can think of a few we use to yell as youngin's. |
