hey
Hi,we are a started sorority,my three friends and I and named Delta Sigma Omega in New York at New York City College of Technology,we formed this group in April and we have 20 girls interested in other colleges besides ours.We already have two chapters in africa of which the Beta chapter has 10 members and the Gamma chapter has 13 members, the college we started our sorority at doesn't have a greek life system anymore because of the hazing caused by the already established two fraternities and three sororities,so my question is we didn't get a chance to register with a Greek Council or a Multicultural Council so what do we do now? Please help

If there's no office of Greek Life at your school or council, then register yourself as a student organization with the office of Student Activities.
|
we've done that, but since they know we want to be a sorority and not a club, they don't want us to use sorority in our name, not even sisterhood....
|
What do You mean?
Very Strange? |

Then don't call your selves a sorority or a sisterhood. Just use the letters and society or club or organization and be active as all heck on campus so that the students know what you guys are all about. Being called a sorority or sisterhood doesn't MAKE you one...and if you are on campus promoting your principles women who believe in that will still come out. |
Do you have a website?

We currently working on our wesite and I do understand that being called a sorority doesn't make us one.We do promote ourselves,we are known on the campus but the problem we have is the student activies office doesn't want us to be a club if we don't show them proof that we are willing to drop- the whole greek act - [as they put it]and remain a club just concerned with doing alot women and the community |
Rocketgirl didn't ask about the website, I did. How did you come up with your name?
|
Our name was formed out of the main purpose of our sorority, which is to up hold diversity, serenity and to produce opportunity for women of all cultures, races, and ethnic groups.

We have the Delta and Epsilon chapters at two other schools in new york whose greek life is up and going but our main problem is the school the sorority was actually founded at does not have a greek life office anymore,so do we just hung around and pick one of our other chapters as the founding college?
The sororities and fraternities that are there are all nationals-Alpha Gamma Delta, Alpha Delta Pi, Delta Zeta,Phi Mu, Kappa Delta and Sigma Sigma Sigma and they still rush but secretly. rocketgirl Quote:

No matter the status of your first chapter, that's still your founding college...you don't just "pick" a new one because Greek life at that campus has died out...that's like saying hey, my mom died, I think I'm going to go around to my friends' moms and pick a new one and she can be my mom!! Perhaps it would be best to write out the locations of all of your chapters - Alpha, Beta, Gamma, Delta and Epsilon - so everyone would understand what you are talking about. I can't be the only one who's totally confused. |
I'm confused. Your sorority was founded this year and you already have 5 chapters with two in Africa? That's really fast!!! How did you all grow so fast?

Delta Sigma Omega?
http://members.blackplanet.com/deltasigmaomega http://deltasigmaomegainc.tripod.com/dso/id1.html http://deltasigmaomega.bravehost.com/history.html The only other Delta Sigma Omega I'm finding online is a chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha. |
