Man Accidentally Kills Wife With Golf Cart
Woman Airlifted To Grand Rapids Hospital

JENISON, Mich. -- An 81-year-old woman who was accidentally run down by a golf cart operated by her 82-year-old husband has died a week after being injured, relatives said.

Donna Lukaart, of Jenison, died from complications of her injuries at Spectrum Health Heart Center in Grand Rapids. Her husband, William Lukaart, was by her side when she died Wednesday on their 60th wedding anniversary.

"She was the love of his life, and he was hers," said the couple's daughter-in-law, Brucine Lukaart, of Jenison.

The accident happened Sept. 7 at the Lakeside Links Golf Course near Ludington, while the couple were on their annual golfing vacation.

Halfway down the fairway of the second hole, Donna Lukaart was behind a bush when William Lukaart drove his golf cart through a canopy of trees on the course. He did not see his wife on the other side until it was too late and he struck her, Mason County Sheriff Laude Hartrum told The Grand Rapids Press for a Friday story.

"We're looking at it as an accident," the sheriff said.
