How are Greek Relations at your school?
I am going to be writing an article in our Greek Newsletter here at Indiana University, and the topic I've chosen to pursue was Improving the poor relationships between Greek houses (mostly fraternities). I would like to get some ideas as to how some other Greek communites at other schools "operate" and get along with eachother.
For instance. When I visit my best friends, who are Delta Sigs at Penn State, we can walk across the street to either Beta or KDR if they are having parties, get in, and have a great time no problem. Here at IU, if we were having a social function and someone from say ,SNU, were to show up and try to get in, they would more than likely be turned away. We rarely have members from different fraternities at our parties and from my understanding, it is like this at most other houses on our campus. I for one, would never consider going over to Phi Psi to party without an invite and expect to get in. So, Im asking you. How would you describe interfraternity relations at your school? thanks Eric |
Guys from fraternities typically do not attend other fraternities parties here at Kent. They honestly don't want alot of GUYS there in general, much less guys from another fraternity.

same here except us and SAE get along really well and usually party together a lot
|
Unfortunately, the Fraternities some times get along with each other except for two!:(
With the need for more Greeks, it doesnt Bode Well for any expansion. Especially By Sororitys!:( Greek Adviser is useless and that is all I will say on that subject. |
Most of the fraternities here get along. Sometimes they even have joint parties. Like last year Pike and SAE had a party, Lambda Chi and Delta Chi, or Delta Chi and Delta Sig, they mix it up. However there are some fraternities that do things on their own. Most guys get along really well.

The IFC fraternities at SIUE all get along pretty well. It's such a small Greek community everyone attends everybody else's parties.

Sig-Taus, TKE's and Delta Sigs have a pretty decent relationship with each other here at Cleveland State. We don't have a problem with other fraternities coming to our parties. I can't speak for the others.

at GMU we will sometimes allow one or two guys from other fraternities--but rarely more than that. Often it is guys who pledged us, got dropped, and joined elsewhere or guys who are just very good friends with some of our brothers.
Mostly we have a pretty strict guest list. As far as other relations are concerned--depends on the fraternity. There are like little 'cliques' within the IFC fraternities. ABC is generally alright and might throw a joint event with XYZ, but almost none of either group's members even speak to MNO. |
It's interesting - at Boston U. there was a lot of competition between chapters. However, with such a small Greek system, in the end there was a good amount of cooperation; a big part of that is that we all saw the system as constantly being under attack, and even through competition saw that we needed each other to survive at the school.

Well normally I would say Greek relations are average, not great but not bad either. However, after last night I’m not so sure. Because of Greek park and the fraternities close proximity we got to listen to a member of XYZ verbally berate us over a megaphone as he called us “faggots,” “pussies,” and “women.” Of course my guys start to yell back after they felt the line had been crossed from teasing to verbal abuse. The genius then decides to say, “Why don’t y’all come over here and do something about it.” Well he got his wish and then filed trespassing charges on the two men who had, had enough. After a few minutes of mediation with the president of XYZ things have been settled but I’m still annoyed that he wouldn’t man up and admit what his brother had done was wrong, instead all I got was “I cant control such and such member and please don’t let it reflect on XYZ.” Can’t control? He lives in their house and in my opinion was committing a crime from their house and his only response was that he couldn’t control that member?

UCF has a very strong Greek Community. There are interchapter and intrachapter friendships and the only "rivalries" are friendly exchanges during intramural sports events and homecoming. It's remarkable.
Fratnernities will sometimes pair up and throw parties together. I don't know how they do it today, but in the late 90's, if you were a girl, you got into any party. If you were a guy and you weren't a member of the fraternity/ies throwing the party, you had to be on the guest list. It wasn't unusual to see a bunch of SAE's at an ATO/SigEp party, though! Everyone gets along really well. We support each other's philanthropies, intramurals, socials are well-attended, chapter members attend Panhellenic and IFC meetings to socialize with one another, there is continuous Greek enrichment programming yearround... and the chapters and the Greek Adviser have instilled a good sense of Panhellenism and encouragement of having friends and a life outside of your own chapter. |
There really isn't any relations on my campus.
Mostly IFC and the greek office is trying to deal fights between frats and many, many other violations. My campus is set up into basically two streets that are entirely fraternities, perpendicular to each other. However one street is going up the side of the mountain and the other is on top of the mountain going longways. The slight amount of relations are usually composed of a frat on one street partying or tailgating with a frat on the other street. For some reason most of the rivalries take place between frats on the same street. |
Not to Be harsh, but maybe they are Friggen Morons!
Dont They Get it? Enough Heat, They All get burned!:( S**T, what is the deal anyway? |
