P.P.S. Good luck to all of those going through recruitment on both sides!

Oh, man, I am baaaad at remembering names, too! But I managed to get around it by using this little trick I made up. It might not work for you if you're not a verbal/visual learner, but I am and it helped me. When I was rushing each girl, I would look at her name on her name tag and try to connect that with either something interesting she said or something unique she had one. For example, I remember this one particular girl because she had this really cool charm bracelet, and I associated her name with the bracelet. I hope you get my drift--it's kind of hard to explain! But that might help, who knows.

Anyway, good luck to you all! Being a small chapter can be challenging during rush, but it's doable. :)

how rude to ask why you are small and a local.
that's the beauty of what it is....
if they don't get it, their loss.

I know that some people suggest repeating the name three times (in your head) using information about the person. For example:
Sally is wearing a pink shirt. Sally is a history major. Sally enjoys playing tennis.

Another trick that I've heard is that you could try, depending on the length of your conversation with the PNM, to repeat their name a few times. This will help put it in your head a little better. Good luck during Recruitment!

I'm pretty bad at remembering names of new people, too. Here's a trick I try to use: Repeat the person's name to her when you are first introduced, and again when the conversation ends.

I know exactly what you mean about "why are you a local / so small". Before we went AEPhi, we were a small, brand new, local sorority - the only local sorority on campus. During formal recruitment, PNMs would come from a rush room packed with 80 cheering, singing women, come into our room, and see just ten of us - and we weren't singing because only one of us (me) could carry a tune in a bucket. :p You can sell the idea that you choose quality women and that new members will have the chance to take on leadership roles right away, but don't linger on your size... small size is a negative. Any chance you could get some alums in to increase your "body count" ?

Good luck! :)

The way I remembered girls in my PX group was "Sarah with the cool hair" or "Stacy with the awesome earings". I tried to remember compliments I had for them (even if I didn't tell them)...find something positive about them and attach it to them like an identity. "Jane with the nice smile", etc.
