Credit Card Debt...

Does anyone know what the statue of limitations in IL (or any state) is for credit card debt? I know after awhile the debt becomes null and it cannot be collected on.

Here's why I ask:

I had a Capitol 1 in college and moved right before I got my first statement...I called to change my address with them and still kept in contact with my old roommate and got my mail that came there...thing is, the statement didn't got to my OLD or NEW address. About 9 months later I got a collection call about it and my card (which was a $200 limit) acct was now $435. Anyway, that was a while ago and I haven't heard anything about it since.

I could be totally wrong but I was under the impression that credit payment history like that stays on your credit report for at least seven years.

I'd get that free copy of your credit report.

Its gone after 7 years.

Has anyone tried requesting a free copy of their credit report yet? The reason I ask is b/c I'm curious as to how long it takes to arrive. We're moving in two weeks, and that's not something I want to worry about having forwarded.

If want to order a free credit report, go to annualcreditreport.com NOT freecreditreport.com.

I found that out the hard way...I'm still getting charged $14.95 a month for my "free" credit report. I can't get them to cancel my acct because I can't "prove" it's me, because I moved like 6 times in college and I can't figure out which address they are wanting.

Cancel that charge through your credit card or bank (if their drafting). I had to do that with AOL because when I tried to cancel, they convienently "forgot" for 3 months straight.

I fell into that trap too. No one told me that I actually had to call and cancel after a month. After the first charge, I called them and yelled at them to take me off. They did, but since the charge went through the first time, it couldn't be refunded.

Also try myfico.com I think. It's what my company uses and they are usually pretty accurate if you are looking to buy a home.

If you do it through annualcreditreport.com, you can view it online. You don't have to have it mailed.

Credit Reports can now be gotten Free I think twice a year.

If there is a doubt about a Credit Card, there is a toll free # on tha back of the card. Change anything Immediately.

If You are getting out of sorts with Credit Cards, dont just cut them up, call and cancell them!

Pay each monthly Bill of ASAP. Their Interest Rate goes up only in Small Print and if they Raise it, the Federal Govt. really doesnt have any say so about the rates.

Amazing, it becomes Usuary Rates but The Feds. only go after the Bookies,ETAL., not the C Cs !
