Ebay Question

So I purchase things on ebay rather frequently, and I post positive feedback ONLY when I receive the item in a timely manner and in satisfactory condition.

This one particular seller is reliable, but h/she really irks me because h/she WILL NOT give positive feedback until I give it first!

Here is her message:

Thank you for your business and have you received your item? I am one of the many sellers that leave feedback after the buyer, therefore after you receive your item your positive feedback is appreciated and I will do the same in return. Thanks again for your business.

I am not going to give her negative feedback, but she is really making me want to send her a snarky message in return. I just think it's tacky -- if I PAID you, that's what you judge my positive feedback on, not whether or not I gave you feedback.

What do you think?

AOII_LB93 09-12-2005 09:09 PM

I agree with you...I've actually given negative feedback when I got items that were misrepresented on the sale. Beyond that I give it if I get my stuff in a timely manner...

I mean you paid her...why should she give a crap? I'd message him/her and ask what's up?

wrigley 09-12-2005 09:19 PM

Most ebay sellers are good but there are those who are annoying. It depends on whether you want to buy stuff from this person again. With one seller I just didn't give her a rating and she didn't give me one and that was the end of it.

I agree if someone misrepresents the item, negative feedback is necessary.

Usually if the seller is just wanting to cover themselves, such is the case here, then I will not leave positive feedback. I don't give them the chance to post anything negative, but I also don't help them by giving them positive feedback.

I think it is so wrong for a seller to hold off of feedback until they make sure they have been covered. That's not the spirit of the whole feedback system.

Edited b/c apparently I cannot spell giving.

All around I HATE asking for feedback by either seller or buyer. As a seller I get pestered for it all the time.

But the buyer's end of the transaction is NOT done when they pay up. Buyer's can pull all kinds of shady crap on their end. Like the one crazy I had when I was selling Victoria's Secret stuff and kept on sending me crazy emails accusing me of sending her use panties (which she said she was just going to give to her 12 year old with Down's Syndrome to wear... right....). Or buyers that file false chargebacks, claim they never got it when they actually did, etc. There's a whole host of problems that can occur. The transaction isn't over until you have the item I sent and I know you're happy with it. There's a lot of buyers that will have a problem with something, leave really nasty feedback, and never bother to contact the seller and give them a chance to fix the situation.

If you want fun debates, go visit the feedback message board over on Ebay.

Thanks everyone....

I have ordered from her before. I think I will just stop doing that.

I will refrain from sending her a snarky note because it most likely won't work.

But she won't be getting positive feedback, either. It's a privilege, not a right.

Again...thanks!

I was having this same problem today dude. I can't figure out how to deal with it so I think I will email Ebay and see what they say.

Most ebay sellers will give a + Feedback when they receive payment not before.

I give + Feed Back upon Receipt of Item or email them if there is a problem. Not untill then of course. Maybe I have been very lucky. Have known others who get screwed give - feedback and then get shit from them!:(

As KDDani stated, Ebay back draft is worthless!

If they are realible, just go with it. Dont be silly! They too are covering their Asses.:)

Tom,

I generally only use PayPal for Ebay, so payment is instant.

Most often, if a seller is giving me feedback, they will do so when they are paid (which, again, is instantly).

Sometimes, a seller will send me a message saying "Thanks for your payment! I have left you positive feedback and hope you will do so when you receive the product." And usually, that's all the reminder I need to do so.

What I DON'T like is a seller who will keep positive feedback hostage until I give them feedback first. If I paid you in a timely manner, then I deserve my feedback.

Rudey: Hello. I had a question. If I pay for an item I win, is a seller allowed to withhold leaving feedback until I leave positive feedback for him? I feel that my end of the bargain was completed.

Edward R.: Hello, I'm Edward and welcome to Live Chat. Please give me a moment to review your concern.

Edward R.: Leaving feedback is actually not required by either party, and some sellers do require feedback be left by the buyer first, as a personal rule.

Edward R.: It's by no means required to leave feedback, it's a courtesy between members to reflect their experiences. I understand some sellers have had issues with buyers leaving feedback prematurely, so some of them do ask for feedback to be left first.

Rudey: what happens if I pay and get a bad item. If I leave negative feedback, they can retaliate and leave negative feedback for me even if they were in the wrong. How do I react in that situation?

Edward R.: That is a possibility, but keep in mind that feedback is meant to be opinions only, so the buyer and seller can reflect their own buying/selling experiences with other members.

Rudey: So basically I can have my ratings hurt even if he was the one at fault?

Edward R.: Yes, but we are instituting changes soon, later this year, and early next year, that will negate feedback left by users who do not participate in our dispute resolution options.

Rudey: I see. OK. Thank you.

Edward R.: Did you want a link detailing those upcoming changes?

Rudey: yes please

Edward R.: Just a moment while I get that, please.

Edward R.: Sorry for the delay, I'll just be another moment.

Rudey: OK

Edward R.: Here's the link for you:

Edward R.: http://www2.ebay.com/aw/core/200509061621372.html

Edward R.: Is there anything else I can assist you with or answer for you today?

I agree whole-heartedly.

You paying satisfied your end of the ebay "contract"... the seller is responsible for getting you the item in satisfactory condition, and in a timely manner.

What irks me is when buyers try to resolve issues (maybe the item didn't get there in a timely manner, etc) and even though the buyer paid on time and in full, they are left with retaliatory (sp?) negative feedback because the seller was given negative feedback after the buyer tried resolving issues.

AOX81 09-13-2005 07:25 PM

I leave feedback immediately when I receive a payment for an item I have sold. :)

DZTUBAGIRL 09-15-2005 04:43 PM

Ok here is the deal. I bought something on ebay. I paid with paypal right after the sale ended. The item was suposed to be sent 3 or 4 days after payment. A week and a half after payment I sent an email to the seller asking when the item was sent. This was not a nasty email at all. I got no response. Another week later I sent another email asking when the item was going to be sent. Again I got no response. So I left a negative feedback for the user. A couple of hours later I had a negative feedback. I was like WTF!! I paid like I was suposed to do. They only did it to be mean. So I filed a complaint with paypal. They got back to me saying that the item was sent on the 3rd. Well that is fine, they did their part. So ebay took off their negative feedback that I gave them. Well mine is still there. I should not have gotten one in the first place. I want it taken off. What should I do? I know this is long and complicated but it really pisses me off. Any suggestions will be helpful.
