New Lyre design :)

Did anyone else get their fall Lyre yet? I'm really liking the redesign :) One of the groups at the conference I was at in March worked on making it more user-friendly, and I think it's worked :)

Also, did you all see the ad for convention in Chicago? I really want to go :)

lyrelyre 09-17-2005 11:11 AM

I am definitely going to convention in Chicago. I can't wait

I'm not sure what I think about the new format of the Lyre. It will take a while to decide.

UGH - I do NOT like the new design! It was on the way to the recycle bin because I thought it was my insurance company's magazine thingy. I think its really ugly - they have changed it like eleventeen times in the past couple of years - can't they make up their mind?! ;)

Convention - there - with bells on :D

Also, did you see the announcement on the back cover for classifieds. I hate the idea of advertising in the Lyre.

Xylochick216 09-19-2005 06:39 PM

I think by classifieds they mean you can announce your wedding or reunion with pictures. We asked at our conference about putting wedding pictures in, and they said it was too expensive to put everyone's in. I know a lot of us said we'd pay to put it in, so maybe that's what it will be for more.

I like the design personally, but then again I think it was redesigned more with the young alumnae in mind. I can't really see a sixty-year-old liking it too much because it is so modern.

Remind me to kick your "at-money-money" sign the next time I see you...

... muttering... sixty year old... I'll show her sixty...

:p

My special shout-out just to you ;)

I hope it is used for weddings and reunions. But it sounded like advertising.

"Do you own your own business and want to get the word out to your Alpha Chi Omega sisters? Now, you can advertise your business in the Alpha Chi Omega classifieds to be published in the Lyre!"

I just don't want to have to wade through pages of advertising to find wedding and reunion classifieds.

Also, I don't know what age "young alumnae" means but I hope at 27 that I am one of them.:D

On page 3 - Editor's Desk - the next to last sentence of the 2nd paragraph reads:

Quote:

And finally, we will begin offering Classified Ads for our members who wish to promote their goods and services.
I sell PartyLite candles, but I don't want to see 10940938409283 ads for direct-home-sales consultants.

I tell ya what I would like to see - on many national websites, they have a shop for AX's -- on ours we only have the licensed vendor list - then you have to go through them to find what you want, etc. I wish that the Lyre would have a page of items that are ready for purchase - tee shirts, sweatshirts, alum stuff, etc. that you can just call and get. I think by putting it in the Lyre, that more people would respond. And a great way to make a little extra $$ for the Fraternity.

That was another thing they discussed.... the lack of an official store. We said we wanted links to nice lyre things people could use to buy to decorate their homes and nice alumnae clothing. As cute as a lot of the plastic tumblers are, I only need so many now that I'm out of college :) I want nice lyre-back chairs and a fun alumnae shirt, though!

Did everyone get their Lyre? Mine has not come yet :(.

AChiOAlumna 09-30-2005 02:12 AM

I'll admit, I did apply for an ad. I am starting up my own private practice (I'm a therapist) and could use all the marketing and help I can get to build my business. I think also for the amount that they are charging enough that they can expand the number of pages in the Lyre if it is a successful endeavor.
