COR Workshop Advice
 

Hey Ladies,

I am the Recruitment Advisor for the Zeta Mu chapter down at Florida Atlantic University. The women had a disappointing formal recruitment and are now preparing to COR for the rest of the semester-- they need to pick up about 12 women.

They are having a workshop this Saturday and have asked me to come speak at it. Does anyone have any good suggestions relating to motivation, explaining Vision, or the Wish List? Also, does anyone have any great success storied about COR? Many of the women are new to the chapter and do not really understand the importance of recruiting and reaching total. I know I want to talk a little bit about how a sorority is a business, but other than that, I need some ideas!!!1

I know something that opened my chapter's eyes about the importance of recruitment is to have everyone stand up, then have all the people graduating this year sit down, then the people graduating next year sit down, I don't know about your chapter but after that, 2 people were standing. A chapter can not run with two people.
Encourage them to all bring at least one person to one event. Also remember they don't have to have specific COR events, bring PNMs to events already scheduled. Vision in a very basic nut shell is the five step approach, go over that with them.
Also remind them they still do have new members who are looking foward to their new member period and try and keep spirits up so they have a good time and don't let the actives stress/disapointment trickle down to them.
Also try and think of new and different ways to get girls out to meet you, the same old same old usually brings the same old same old results, have a brain storming session about new ways to get your name out there and get women to come meet the sisters. :D

as for success stories - my chapter is full of them.

2 yrs before me, there was a time when it was down to 4 active members. - the women were albe to recruit and initiate 13 women that semester!

there's been other times since then when it was down to 6-10 memebrs and through COR they got it up. (the chapter is currently holding around 20 members)

Remember to focus on fun! also, there are great ways of incorporating our Core values into recruitment. Recruitment is NOT a chore! It's a great fun way to meet new women and possibly meet new sisters!

Oh, and don't forget to remind them that they did NOT have a "disappointing" recruitment. Sure they didn't get the numbers they were hoping for, but they did get 8 Awesome women who are going add to their membership!!! 8 new sisters they can share sisterhoods with and talk about Phi Sig with! 8 new women that they are just getting to know!

I think the most important thing to remember is follow up. Or just taking the initiative. My youngest sister just started at my alma mater and I called the archon and told her Suz is having a hard time meeting people and making friends, would she mind getting a group together to take her out to lunch or something? She text messaged me back saying she's really busy right now, she'll call me when she gets a chance. That was like 2 weeks ago.

Not only is Suz lonely, she's interested in joining a sorority yet the chapter is missing out the her getting to know them. She's being recruited by other houses and my chapter's always been pretty poor at keeping good ladies interested (the ones we didn't really want seemed to keep coming back!!!).

When I first rushed I wasn't eligible but the MRC called me a couple of weeks later to invite me to see a play with the sisters. That made a lasting impression and I ended up joining. It's kind of like dating, when one person stops calling the other loses interest. As the chapter, it's your responsibility to make all the first moves. A person can walk past a sign 100 times but won't take action. If someone asks her to a party, chances are she'll show up.

Hi ladies! Nicci Hollar here, Director of Programming for Phi Sig. I'm sorry to say I missed this post last weekend, and the opportunity to provide advice and info. about Vision and Reflections and recruitment, but another helpful resource to remember whenever anyone is looking for this kind of info., is to please email the regional programming coordinator (RPC) for your region. You probably already know this, but in case anyone reading this post doesn't - each RPCs email address is rpc and then the region # and then @phisigmasigma.org (ie. rpc9@phisigmasigma.org or rpc1@phisigmasigma.org). The RPCs are ready to provide help in the way of training, or resources, handouts, helpful pointers, etc.

Another terrific resource is the Membership Manager for your region. (Email is mm#@phisigmasigma.org - ie. mm9@phisigmasigma.org). They too can provide additional info. and materials.

And, of course, our RCDs and RDs - they are always ready and on hand to provide info. and help too!
