Alumnae Helping w/Recruitment

I'm helping out the local Gamma Phi chapter with recruitment tonight. Since I'm an AI and this is the first time I'll be seeing recruitment from the other side I'm not sure what I should expect. What kind of stuff do alums usually do when they help out?

Thanks!

In my experience, alumnae are usually background support,
removing dirty dishes, refilling serving plates/pitchers, moral support, etc.

Alumnae are usually not allowed to actually participate in the recruitment events like the collegiate sisters.

I usually help out every fall (I couldn't this year as I've been out of the country) & I always help to collect dirty dishes & escort PNM's to the restroom & things like that. Usually we just add lots of moral support to the collegiate girls!

Thanks ladies. That's pretty much what I thought but wanted to make sure I wasn't way out in left field.

Our alumnae help with set-up, prep in-between parties, clean up, moral support, etc. But in the past, we've also helped with the membership selection -- counting, adding, etc. (not the actual choosing of members!!) so the active house can focus on their parties and not stress....

Our alumnae are FABULOUS. Here are some of the things they assist with during recruitment:

*On the first 2 days of recruitment, parties are held in the student center. When we're on lunch breaks, we must STAY in our assigned break room, since the PNM's are eating downstairs in the cafeteria. So the alumnae purchase our food and bring it up to us.

*Cleaning the house the night before house tours.

*Cleaning in between house tours and preference night.

*Set up and tear down of any large pieces (i.e. backdrops and
things).

*They make sure the food is ready when the PNM's arrive.

*Restocking food and drink throughout the night so we don't run out in the middle of the party.

*Anything incidental we might need (i.e. sewing kits, electric tape, glue).

*Assisting with MS. Not the process itself, just distributing and collecting materials.

Jocelyn, sounds like the alum support you have there in Kent is phenomenal!

Friday night was so awesome to see. The girls were so energetic and very sweet. In some ways I felt like a PNM myself because I've only met them one other time. If I truly were a PNM I would have felt very much at home with these ladies. I walked around to help make sure everything was going smoothly and poured punch for them so they could focus on recruitment. Can't wait to find out how they do but bid day isn't until next Sun.

I'm glad you enjoyed it - I really find it rewarding to help out. :D
