You can never join another. My friend seems to think that once you have been iniated into one fraternity you can deactivate and join another, is this true?

I had a friend who was a Kappa Alpha at Texas Tech, and when he transfered to A&M, he pledged Lambda Chi.

I'd like to see the list of fraternities that will accept a person who has been 'initiated' into another fraternity. I don't know of any. Now, pledged into a different fraternity is one thing, but initiated is another?!?!

Beta Theta Pi will not accept a person who has previously been initiated into another fraternity.

The NIC rule is that no member fraternity will knowingly initiate a man who has already been initiated into another member fraternity unless the "new" fraternity HQ receives a letter from the "old" fraternity confirming that the man in question has been removed from the membership rolls of the "old" fraternity.

Within the parameters of this policy, some NIC member fraternities will initiate a man previously initiated into another member fraternity, and some prohibit such initiations outright.

Neither will Kappa Sigma.

But if You leave, college or The Chapter is closed, You can be given Alum Status or Suspended for Violations. Not Released From Your Ritual Pledge!

I know a guy who was initiated into a second fraternity, but it was after a transfer to a school that did not have a chapter of the first fraternity, and the second fraternity was not NIC.

Alpha Sigma Phi will not accept any candidate for membership who has been previously initiated into a social fraternity that is national in scope, nor anyone who belongs to any organization that is anti-fraternity. Once you have taken the vows of membership and entered the Mystic Circle, membership in Alpha Sigma Phi is for life.

There is a provision in SAE's national laws that provides for the possibility of initiating someone who previously joined another fraternity, but the process and requirements are so restrictive that I doubt it happens much, if ever. One of the absolute requirements, though, is that the candidate must not be an undergraduate.
