I am not sure if you have seen this, but I got the following emails this week:

Pi Phi Hurricane Recovery Efforts

Pi Beta Phi members are deeply concerned about the welfare of our collegians at Louisiana Alpha, Louisiana Beta, Mississippi Alpha and the welfare of all our members, collegians and alumnae, living in the areas devastated by Hurricane Katrina. If you are a member of Pi Beta Phi who has been affected by
Hurricane Katrina, log-on to the Members-Only section and share your information on the Bulletin Board, under the Hurricane Katrina category. And, if you are in a position to offer assistance to your sisters, please share that information as well.

Pi Beta Phi Fraternity is making a donation to the American Red Cross for general relief to support the victims of Hurricane Katrina. Members suffering financial hardship are encouraged to apply for aid from the Pi Beta Phi Foundation's Emma Harper Turner (EHT) Fund. Contact Betsy McCune at betsy@piphico.org

Pi Beta Phi Fraternity Establishes Emergency Relief Fund

Pi Beta Phi Grand Council announces the establishment of the Sister to Sister Emergency Relief fund. The fund is available immediately to assist members and chapters affected by Hurricane Katrina and other emergencies. The impact of Katrina is starting to spread across the country and this fund will be available for members who have lost their homes or livelihood and collegiate chapter members who must relocate to other schools. It is also available to Pi Phi chapters across the country that are faced with financial impact as they open their hearts and their houses to Pi Phis relocating in order to continue their education. “The Fraternity is especially mindful of the unique situation at the Louisiana Beta chapter house at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge,” said President Emily Tarr. “Many of the Louisiana Beta chapter members are from the New Orleans and the Gulf coast and the chapter house is currently a refuge for them and some of their mothers and sisters. We will support them during this very difficult time.”

Since I am working with the chapters of Region 6 (Mississippi/ Louisiana/ Arkansas/ Oklahoma/ Texas), I can attest that our members are safe. Many have lost a lot and the women of Louisiana Alpha are now deciding how to continue their studies while Tulane is closed. Procedures have been set up for displaced Pi Phis seeking housing or involvement with other chapters.
