My Baby is Going to Kindergarten

As many of you all know I have a four year old son named William C. and his birthday is in December so hee was going to be unable to go to kindergarten this year because his birthady is to late and knoiw even most private schools even have a sept cut-off date for birthdays..The problem is that he was in the four year old class last year at preschool and all his friends were going to kindergarten and he was basically going to have to go through a nother year of the samew exact things, because the teacher said that they had no special class for kids like him...So I was basically going to just find him a nother preschool to go to for a change of scenery and so he would not be repeating the exact curriculum again. Well I called about thirty schools and when I called number 31 and told her my whole situation she asked can she talk to Will on the phoine and she asked him a few questions...how do yyou spell your name, his ABC's and number and stuff like that ....and then she told me that she would take him into their kindergarten program because they can actually take kids ads long as they turn 5 tduring the first 4 months of school in private schools (somethin I never knew)

I was so overjoyed I cried on the phone and the tuition for Kindergarten is actually 2 hundred dollars less a month than preschool, so I won't be on hear to much for the summer, because between my internship and my job, I want to spend as much time a s possible making sure that Will is really ready for Kindergarten.

I just had to share that with you all because I am just so overjoyed.

And please pray for us both. So that he won't be overwhelmed and I won't overwhelm him.

Cool! Some good news for a change! Is that how it is in your state? I went to kindergarten when I was 4. My birthday is in December. Also my oldest son went in at 4 too. His birthday is in November. I am glad you found a school. It would be a shame to hold him back another year and for his friends to be ahead of him. Thanks for sharing this good news!

Congratulations.I had the same problem with my daughter, who is also a December baby.

She will be in second grade this fall, and despite the fact that she's always the youngest in her class, she excels. Good luck.

Hi sorhors:

I had a similar experience. I placed my son in different school system because they accepted them at an earlier age. The only problem with that I had to keep him back in third grade this year because he was to immature for the class. His behavior got in the way of his academics. He's very intelligent and he's a grade above the rest of the class but, sometimes, especially with boys who go to school earlier, are not mature enough to handle the class room environment.

Sisterly,

Thanks everyon for the replies, I'm not to worried about the maturity thing, because i actually spoke to his previous teacher of two years and she says he should have no problem. (plus I prayed on it..)

But since we have so many teachers in here I was wondering if someone could give me like a cheacklist of things to go over this month to make sure he is academically ready for his class.

Does he recognize and/or write his own name?

Recognize the 26 letters of the alphabet uppercase and lowercase

Can distinguish the difference (before/after, over/under.

Retell a story (early reading comprehension). That is if you retell it but leave out important details or not tell it in sequence, can he "correct" your story.

I'll be back with more.

Thanks soror and I welcome anything else you might have

He can right his name, but he has trouble staying in between the lines of the paper when he rights it and at times he will place the stem of letters on the wrong side, but we are working on that.

The 26 letters are down-pact, but he does mix-up the lawer case d and b at times.

His comprehension is outsatnding. I can't even skip pages in any of his books any more. He will look at the picture and say that doesn't look like what happened ....lol

Just curious.....what school is he going to be attending? My former elementary school made this same exception for my younger brother...but that was years ago.
