What is your GLO doing to help Katrina victims?
Hi All,
I know that many of us probably have collegiate and alumnae chapters in the areas hit by Hurricane Katrina, and was wondering if any of your National HQ (or your chapter on a local level) have devised a way to help brothers and sisters affected by the disaster? Please tell us what your GLO is doing to help. Maybe it will give others ideas. :) Thanks, dzrose93 |

Anchor Grants are for sisters in dire financial need. Hopefully many sisters will contribute and raise money for our sisters in need! |
Each woman in my chapter is making a $25 donation to the Red Cross disaster relief fund.
|
The APO national home page has links to places to donate and ways to help, and a list of service project ideas for individual chapters.
There's also a lot of talk about ways to help on APO-L. |
Nothing official yet, but I've sent emails to sisters and posted on our yahoo group about the Humane Society needing donations. I'm hoping HQ will come up with something official soon :) I'd love to know if sisters are in need so I can help

Can a MOD Please merger these? They are well meaning!:) |
I just received an e-mail from my chapter president that our region is in the process of collecting funds for our members who have been affected. We have set up an account to donate funds.

Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc's International President has released a statement urging members to contribute to the relief efforts. Statement
Our Southern Region has released information advising members to volunteer and contribute in any way. My state, Illinois, is taking donations for the children affected. |
Phi Sigma sigma has had a Twin Ideals disaster relief fund for a while now - it was used after 9/11 and earlier this year after the Tsunami. our Foundation has sent a notice that the funds designated to this will now go to those affected by the hurricane.
AFAIK though the funds will be donated to the Red Cross and not to just our sisters. |
phi mu has a heart and hand fund which provides help to sisters and their families who have been affected by natural disasters. this fund has existed for several years.

Kathleen Babineaux Blano, the Governor of Lousiana is a Kappa Delta. These pieces of news are on our national website, www.kappadelta.org:
Gov. Calls for Prayer Hurricane Katrina Update No organization-wide relief effort yet, but I'm sure individual chapters are doing their own thing. |
Chapter Websites
On a local level, webmasters of chapter sites can also put a message and a link to redcross to donate. The easiest link is:
https://www.redcross.org/donate/donation-form.asp If you are a webmaster or can easily get in contact with your webmaster I highly recommend it. |
www.fraternalrelief.org
This website was created by Lambda Chi Alpha (http://www.lambdachi.org) in an effort to better coordinate Hurricane Katrina relief efforts for all fraternal organizations. (This just got started so there is very little information there) Check it out. I got this info from my online alumni chapter. |

DZ has an online alumnae chapter called Surfing Sisters, and I just learned today that the exec board has made a $500 donation to the Red Cross earmarked for Katrina relief. :)
We're waiting to find out what our national HQ is going to do. Right now, we've been advised to give directly to reputable charities that are set up to help hurricane victims. (Usually, we would make donations through our DZ Foundation and they would total everything up and send it to a charity. However, because it takes a while to send things through Foundation and have it go out again, our HQ has instructed us to just give directly to the charities themselves so that people get the aid more quickly.) |
