Katrina ...Grace_E?

Hi all,

she does not post much but her sn is Grace_E. She is an ADPi initiate from USM. She is from Ocean Springs, Mississippi. I called her a few days ago to see if she was alright, and she told me she was taking her little sister and driving up to Laurel, while her mother was staying at the home in Ocean Springs. I dont know why the mother stayed...she called me a few times but I missed them. Whenever I tried to call back, I couldn't get through and got some sort of message saying that the circuits are cut because Katrina.

I watched the local channel earlier today and there it was...Ocean Springs, Mississippi in utter shambles. Absolute shambles. Her house was RIGHT at the coast. The reporter said there was no house left standing that was along the coast. sigh...I hope her mother is ok somehow.

I thought that yall would possibly like to give a prayer out for one of your sisters. If and when I hear from her, I will let you all know.
Please, lets keep the Grace family from Ocean Springs, Mississippi in your hearts.

Thank you for letting us know about our sister. We will all certainly keep her family in our prayers. Let us know if there is anything we can do for them.

BBelleADPi 08-31-2005 09:48 AM

Absolutely, and thanks for letting us know. My husband and I donated to the Red Cross this morning, but hearing personal stories like this still makes one feel absolutely helpless. We will all be praying that you are able to get some information about her and her family, and that they are safe.

(((((((((((((Bobby the Don)))))))))))))))

Thank you SOO much for letting us know about Grace_E!! She & her family will be in our prayers.

We're donating to the Salvation Army, and while it may sound crazy, we're worried sick about all the poor lil pets who are stranded!

Oh, why did you have to mention the pets!! I was trying not to think of those.

I'm sorry - but we tease that my mother had the choice between Cute and Smart, and she has the Cutest Dog on four paws!! The very thought of him trying to use his wits to survive just scares the spit out of me!

I've made a donation to the Humane Society here.

Bobby the Don, will you let us know if you hear from Grace_E before we do? Pretty please?

ADPiShannan 09-01-2005 09:19 AM

I sent out a huge prayer in my church for her and her family along with everyone else.

Honey I was thinking of the same thing when I knew about this. I am the BIGGEST animal lover so it really made me cry when I thought of it. So many people without their pets who are like children to them.

I know if I left or something bad happened I wouldnt leave or get out until I had my babies with me. I love my cats and dog so much.

Our church may be going there for a mission. We all want to help so much. They are in the midst of organizing one.

The really sad part was that they were not letting people bring pets with them into the Superdome. It makes totallllll sense-- but can you imagine?!?! I CAN"T!! I was reading somewhere that a guy came to the Dome with a kitten and they told him he could not bring it in-- he said she was so young and could not leave her, so he left the dome.

I just wanna cry-- I feel so helpless!! I donated money-- but I want to physically help-- but there is not much I can do with a full-time job!!

Has our national office posted anything on Pride Online? I'd like to know if there is a way to reach out to our fellow sisters. People on Craigslist are offering up free housing and job offers around the country:

http://neworleans.craigslist.org/apa/

I've donated money, but I'd be more than willing to open my home to any sisters, especially recent grads who are now without homes, apartments or jobs and help them get back on their feet.

HBADPi 09-01-2005 02:48 PM

Thats nice of the people on craigslist to be doing that but the problem I see is a) some of those are all the way on the west coast and these people probably have no money or method to get out there and b) most if not all probably dont have internet access to be checking that stuff out...

This is all the official site says....

In an effort to help the agencies that are best equipped to handle this type of emergency we are asking members to consider making donations to the Salvation Army, http://www.salvationarmyusa.org/USNSAHome.htm or the American Red Cross, www.redcross.org.

I checked PO and it was more "how can we make sure sisters are okay?" type of thing. Nothing official from EO/GC.

I noticed that earlier today - but then I realized that we also have the Clasped Hands and other emergency funds. Right now, the Salvation Army, Red Cross & Humane Society are best equipped to help those suffering, but in the months to come, we should ALL remember the endowments, and try to give what we can!

Is there a thread of "has anyone seen So and So" yet?

Have any of you personally been affected by Katrina yet?
We were. It's just tanglble stuff, but I'm still upset about it. We were not allowed to bring everything over to Germany with us and left some stuff in storage for the past 3 years. We came to germany from Biloxi, Mississippi at the Air Force Base there, so our stuff has been stored there near the commercial airport in Gulfport, Mississippi. We keep hearing news about New Orleans, but the Mississippi Gulf Coast was ravaged as well. We don't know what condition our stuff will be in when we get it back, IF we get it back. It was stuff like a washer and dryer and microvave which I don't care about... but also some sentimental stuff- like dolls I had collected from around the world, my high school memorabilia including my diploma, some old prom/ formal/ bridesmaids dresses, a cloak my mother had hand-sewn for me, lots of books and a few ADPi things I didn't bring with me, like my crest sweatshirt, another sweatshirt I made that is one of a kind, and my BADGE! Why I didn't bring all that stuff with me I never quite figured out these past 3 years- I've wanted to use half of it while i was here. I'm just a little bit (ok A LOT) bummed right now. And the thing is, it is all tanglble stuff, so I'm beating myself up for being so upset about it all when A) it is not me or my husband hurt, or anyone else of our family and B) we don't know what damage there is yet. Oh well. Life goes on. You figure if i've already been accepted to graduate school for a Master's degree, no one will want to see my high school diploma anymore right? And the clothes probably don't fit anymore. Does Pride online still sell those reversible Crest sweatshirts? Whats the link to buy a badge with my initials and chapter of initiation on it again? Anybody know where I can buy a Madame Alexander Classic Heidi doll from 1978?
I'm sorry. I'm just upset still and it's been a few days since we realized that Katrina had actually affected us. Give me a few more months and an official shipment of our stuff or a notification thats' it gone and then I'll learn to deal when I actually can know what exactly is missing/gone/ruined.

(((((((adpi*nurse)))))))

I wish there was more that I could do besides hug through the internet....even though you're not *certain* about any losses, there is still the possibility that you HAVE been affected by the hurricane, and if I'm reading you right, it's probably harder right now because you just don't know, unlike many of those in the Gulf area who are living with the tragedy in their lives right now. If I had any of the things you were most concerned about (especially ADPi stuff) I'd send it to you immediately.

Wishing that I could give you a hug in person right now! :(

(I love you bunches!)

BBelleADPi 09-02-2005 10:35 AM

Ditto, Nurse!! You don't have to rationalize your feelings and emotions. They are what they are, neither right nor wrong. And what you may have possibly lost, while material things, define a part of who you are. So hugs, and thoughts to you. And it may be possible, through websites and ebay, to recover some of those things as time goes on. What about people? Do you know anyone there now?
