Hurricane Katrina and ZTA

I was just wondering if anyone has heard about our chapters in LA, Mississippi, and Alabama? I hope all of our sisters (Collegiate and Alumnae)

My thoughts and prayers are with them....

ZLAM,
Meredith

Your chapter at Mississippi State should be okay. The other ones in LA at University of New Orleans might be affected, although UNO does not have sorority houses. Anyway, as of right now it is very hard to get phone calls through to 504, 985, 228 area codes.

As far as I know all AL ZTAs are fine.

Please keep all of our sisters in this in your prayers. They are most likely going to need them!

I can go on and tell you if she's from Chalmette her house has at least been flooded out. My dad's whole side of the family lives in CHalmette and Arabi and I saw the roof to my uncle's house in an arial photo. 2 story house and all you could see was the roof. We are doing a relief effort as a family as they are all staying with my dad in Dothan, AL. So being in Fort Walton Beach, FL I have set soemthing up wtih the YMCA that I work at and we are taking donations for anything that people will need. When my family can go back we are taking everything we have collected to the Chalmette and Arabi areas. We are hoping it's going to be a big effort by people in our communitites in this area, we have already lined up trucks with a family friend that owns a big storage and moving company.

A Zeta in Need

Sisters - Tonight I received an e-mail from my District President telling about the plight of one of our Zeta sisters from Forest, MS. She, her husband, and her son evacuated to Hot Springs, Arkansas. They lived only blocks from the levee that broke, and from the e-mail it sounds as if she has lost her home and everything in it.

The LA and AR District Presidents have decided that she is going to need some of the basic essentials in the next few weeks (diapers, formula, clothes, food) so they have devised a plan. If any of you are interested in helping a Zeta sister, the DP from AR is willing to collect checks and money and get her some gift certificates to local grocery stores, etc. They have set a deadline for everything to be to the DP by next Wednesday, September 7 as we are unsure how long she will be staying in Little Rock. She mentioned possibly getting a rental closer to home so that she can help with the recovery efforts. If you would like to help please let me know and I can give you the information.

ZLAM,

Courtney Deering
President
Greater McHenry County (IL) Alumnae of ZTA

Courtney,

We need contact info for the DP so that we can assist. Also, can you find out if she accepts PayPal? That way many of us can send her cash directly and instantaneously.

I received this information yesterday. There are also a couple of articles on ZTA's homepage.

"For those collegians that have lost their homes, have no insurance and need help, Emergency Scholarship Grants will be available through the ZTA Foundation. An application will be on the web site Tuesday and should be returned to International Office as soon as possible. These applications will be reviewed and the money made available as soon as possible.

For alumnae who have no place to stay, there is the possibility for temporary housing in some of our chapter houses. This would need to be coordinated through the Vice President Collegiates. The decision to provide housing is an individual chapter decision and will depend on availability, but to offset the expense, the ZTA Foundation will cover the cost of room and board."

Hurrican Rita joins the list!

Okay I am bumping this because of Hurricane Rita.....

Any news on the Texas Zetas out there? I have tried calling radiozta several times (left messages) and haven't heard from her. I hope our sisters are okay!

PenguinTrax 10-02-2005 09:01 PM

I spoke with LaRue and Katie Walthall and they are all fine and their families are accounted for. They didn't mention other ZTAs that were affected. I'd say the best place to look for information would be IO.

Thanks Barbara....that makes me feel better to hear that!
