Do you think tuition increase will decrease GLO membership
 

With tuition getting higher and higher do you think it is going to lower GLO membership? Do you think more students are going to be more concerned with paying for college that they just bypass going Greek altogether?

I was reading my local newspaper which had all the Michigan college's rate increase and I was like :eek: I hope that does not make students less inclined to join a fraternity or sorority.

I think anyone who joins a Greek organization (for the right reasons) will truly gain a lot. I have truly enjoyed my experiences and it makes going back for events even more special and great. :) :D

Yes. It already has at many schools.

I think it will affect those schools whose Greek life is already hurting, but I'm not sure it would effect say, the SEC Greeks (and other very strong Greek systems), and if it does, I'm sure a strong Greek system like those would be able to compensate by lowering recruitment fees/dues. Being that a huge amount of girls in the SEC aren't placed anyway, I'm sure it would be awile before Quota comes anywhere near the number of PNM's. The problem is the schools whose Greek systems are already hurting don't have the extra funds, PNM's, etc to compensate.

Not only did they have huge increases in tuition in Michigan (averages of 13% .. some up to 18%), but the economy is in the pisser with an unemployment rate of 7% +. We're very concerned that it will affect numbers.

If you look at the fancy cars in the campus parking lots, and look at the duds the students are wearing, a tuition increase won't affect very many.

Again, it depends on the campus-

Greek systems are strong on a number of private colleges where tuition is already much higher, so no I don't see it impacting the numbers.

I believe it will effect state schools, not the big state schools, but the small to medium size state schools.

However, I believe that the demographic of the student (ie older students and more part-timers) is having the biggest impact on GLO membership. I have no way of proving it and might just be 100% incorrect.

I completely agree. Also, there's a thread around here somewhere about the Millennials (don't shoot me, 33-girl!) which I think is very helpful for everyone to understand exactly what type of students we are recruiting.

I think it depends on the greek organization you are speaking of because it seems that dues vary greatly from organization to organization. Maybe it might hurt orgs where there are house fees or very high national/regional dues. I think other organizations with lower dues would not see a change like some of the up and growing nationals and the locals.

State Us are cheaper, but still the costs go up. Expendable $$ can only go so far.

We have a better product to sell, but can they (newbies) afford it. One of the things We try to do is keep Housing $ down compared to Apt and Dorm rents.
