institute people
Got some 3rd instituters on this piece i see. I too, am a released convict/graduate of 3rd institute lol. Tau class rocks, however my third place Beta jeopardy gift did not. That shirt is like a fucking dress on me (it's an XXXL), we must protest such shoddy gifts for third placers.
Well since I didn't mean to make a thread, just a post in another, I might as well make this useful. To all of you who went to institute, how'd you feel about it? Did you come out of it thinking you wasted your time or that it was a mind-blowing experience? What do you think can be improved (if you feel it needs improvements)? I won't lie, I was not a fan the first two days because it was just basic leadership exercises I could've taken at UIFI with hot sorority chicks. However once we did the community service event (I got the at-risk kids, I had a blast playing a ton of weird games with them), went over the ritual in detail, and then discussed how we can improve our particular chapters, I felt I finally got what I wanted out of the experience. I personally hated that weird game where we were all roman cities. My team ended up with no money for christ's sake. I say drop that game and possibly try to expand going over the ritual and how to improve our particular chapters instead of spending 2 days on basic leadership stuff. Discuss. |
nice to see you on greekchat Ivan, I think I remember who you are.
I agree, I think the general feel was that the first couple of days were lacking, but the end was well worth it. I really liked the time in the Hall of Chapters. I thought that was pretty sweet. However, on my community service, all I did was paint santa clauses (old folks recreation center), so it was not that exciting for me. The roman game made no sense, and really I think we all left that more confused then anything. My favorite part was just the open discussion in the small groups so you can ask anything you want and get some answers from fellow chapters. My group got really close, it was pretty awesome. |
Yep
How's it going Ivan?
I'm pretty much in concensus with you two. The first two days of leadership exercises were all things which I've done before with my chapter during meets with our EC, or in some other leadership thing I've done. The most helpful and enjoyable parts of the Institute were the group discussions in our chapters and actually applying our principles through things such as the philanthropy. Discussing the ritual in the hall of chapters should have happened on the second day, or maybe even late the first day with the rest of the week doing more hands on things that our principles apply to, then coming back in large and small group discussions about it. But all in all Institute was still an amazing experience, and the biggest thing that I brought back for our chapter is accountability, since that's our chapter's biggest problem- if a brother isn't holding himself, or his other brothers accountable to the seven and three that he commits himself to once a month, it just lead to other problems. |
