I Found This Interesting

I was browsing through the board today( archives and current postings) and it is very rare that I post anything but I felt this deserved my attention.
I've noticed that a lot of my fellow sisterfriends are quite bold in their dealings with the members of Alpha Kappa Alpha. For instance there is one person in particular who has been posting recently and her threads continue to be locked because of them being disrespectful in nature. And instead of heeding the advice of the members, she continues to be unrully and disrespectful only to get embarassed and possibly her feelings hurt. I've seen this happen on multiple occasions and escapes me as to why these ladies are so persitently rude. So, in my attempt to be a more helpful sisterfriend I try to email this person and a few others just to give them some tips according to what I've learned by merely being an OBSERVER to the board. Surprisingly enough NONE OF THEM HAVE AVAILABLE EMAILS. Hmmm...I wonder why??? Could it be that none of them have the true courage to speak their minds and let their true identity be known. I mean, we are all women who reserve the right to say what is own our minds and challange those who may not neccessarily agree. However, why not provide away for the members of the organaization to do so as well with out embarassing you on a public forum. I know that there are PM's but my point is this.....
A lot of these ladies who have internet courage wouldn't dare post information that would lead to them being discovered by members who maybe on their own campus. I just thought that was interesting.
In no way am I attempting to bash the sisterfriends because we are all in the same boat and we ALL still have a lot to learn in our pursuit of Alpha Kappa Alpha. But I can say that I do find it irritating to see that a lot of us still dont get the point. The fact still remains, whether we agree with their methods or not, this is still their house and we are merely guests. They still hold a position of authority in that they hold something that the majority of us hope to attain one day, memebership into Alpha Kappa ALpha Sorority Inc. Therefore , we should humble ourselves in light of that. I am not suggesting that we kiss up but if you must stand up, don't be afraid to put your name behind it.

hmm

I've noticed that a lot of people have viewed this post and not responded. I guess people really weren't trying to hear that. At least the sisterfriends. I apologize if I've offended anyone but I felt compelled to speak my mind.

Hey ClassicDiva,

I don't think you offended anyone at all. I just don't think anyone had anything really to say. What you said was right, and I think most people who viewed your post would agree with what you said. Plus, you pretty much summed it all up. Unfortunately people sometimes have nothing to do other than annoy others by creating false identities and hiding behind their computers. Your observation was based on fact. Kind of like a rhetorical question. It didn't really require an answer or response. For the most part I think the majority agreed. Those that didn't are probably those who have alternative agendas. If you email them, they probably won't care. So don't even waste your energy on them. As a matter a fact, don't worry about them at all. Idle minds don't make it very far in this world. It's generous of you to want to help and reach out to them. There are some that are worth it, but then there are also some that are just not. Sometimes we need to just let go and let God. It may be like you're talking to a brick wall, because they just don't listen. You just do you... and He will handle the rest! ;)

who are you speaking of?

ClassicDiva 08-23-2005 04:04 PM

Lemme say this again......

Kamryn, thank you for your reply and I totally agree with you. Just had to speak my mind girl. Plus she wants to know who i was talking about so..... here goes.

I thought that I as clear in my initial post but I must have been mistaken. So maybe I should reconstruct my statement so that ALL can understand.

Ladies of Alpha kappa Alpha, sisterfriends I sincerely apologize for my lack of clarity. I'll restate my position ;)

I was refering to sisterfriends who have such outstanding courage over the net that they would continuously disrespect the members of the organization thorugh posts and childish nitpicking. Sometimes this is due to le lack of ignorance concerning protocol ( hence the pearls of wisdom). Or maybe its due to the lack something better to do with one's time. Maybe all of the above. None the less it is these one's who will go out of their way to hide their identity. WHY???

Maybe they to use the board to get something off of their chest concerning the organization; using it as a vehicle to take out thier aggression with maybe the members of the org. on their OWN campus on unsepecting individuals. Maybe they use the board as a way to get questions asnswered that they are afraid to ask the memember of the organization on their own campus. OR maybe, and this one is just a hunch, some of these indiviuals have such unfufilling lives that allow for time to to argue pointlessly on a message board. I don't know. I'm not in a position to judge. Whatever the case may be, the fact of the matter is, why make such bold comments and then get mad when a member says something that you can't handle or weren't quite prepared for? Why even argue in the first place???

Don't think that cattieness is going to make them secretly like you any more. Showing them that you can stand up for yourself on a message board is not going to get you brownie points for personality. The vast majority of these women are not even a part of the chapter located in your area, so belittling them or trying to impress them by "fighting" back will accomplish nothing. Cause they will STILL have their letters and your feelings WILL still be hurt. I've seen it happen so many times.

You are wasting precious time and energy that could be put towards something else like RESEARCHING the organization on your own. Instead of pointless bickering about something you THINK you know.

This is not saying that I always agree with some of the methods employed to some members chew out the sisterfriends or others. But at the end of the day, internet fighting is just childish and won't get a person any futher on their pursuit to Alpha kappa Alpha. Actually,a lot of the times, it has been a huge set back because individuals who THOUGHT they were hiding their identities would end up letting something slip and eventually got put on blast anyway. Now what did that accomplish. Ya know?

The fact of the matter is, you first have to become a WOMAN before you can become a woman of Alpha Kappa Alpha. And sometimes as women, we need to humble ourselves and gracefully bow out. And learn to heed the advice given us. Because I've found that silently heeding the advice given, goes a lot futher than trying to change the logic behind it. Get where I'm coming from???

I apologize for the legnth. Hope that cleared up any questions.
