1st Year teachers: New Teacher Training?

Does your district have new teacher training/orientation? Is it paid?

Ours is this week. Its unpaid, except for Friday, which is an optional to go into our classrooms, and we get a stipend.

Our counties has one "new employee" orientation where we have to fill out all the paper work, get our insurance stuff underway and learn county policies...etc. That is only from like 8-12 though.

Then we have a day long 8-4 new teacher orientation for 1st year teachers where they go over the same stuff you learned while student teaching and while in college (mostly INTASC standards - http://www.dpi.state.nc.us/pbl/pblintasc.htm).

Both are unpaid.

I had a 3 day new teacher orientation. It was on 3 Saturdays and we got paid $100 a day for going. It was required as well.

New Teacher Training? They make you do a year of student teaching in this state, (where you work for free). Why would they pay you extra to train?

Some of y'all are spoiled ;)

Ours is unpaid- two days. Then how ever long we spend setting up our classroom.

Frankly, I don't think its fair. If the orientation occured after Sept 1, then I would be and employee and would have to get paid because our union wouldn't go for it otherwise. But since I'm not an employee, I'm not in the union, so no one will fight it for me.
