My chapter is getting a house!
So I just got an email that went out to all the alums of my chapter...
My chapter is getting a house!! :D As I understand it, they have closed on the house and arranged for some renovations to take place this month so that some of the sisters can move in prior to the start of the fall semester. Woo Hoo! :D |
w00t! Congrats on a new home-base :)
|
Congratulations! Are all the chapters at MIT housed now?
When its all said and done, post some pictures :) |
Alpha Phi, Alpha Chi Omega, and Sigma Kappa all have houses.
I'm not sure about Kappa Alpha Theta. A couple of years ago, Theta and AEPhi were offered suites/sections in a graduate dorm. Theta accepted, AEPhi declined. I'm not sure if Theta still has that suite or if they have an actual "house" house. |
My chapter is also getting a house!!!! We're closing in on it and it's almost for sure! I'm so excited!
|
congratulations to both your chapters on your housing!! that is awesome!!
|
Did they say where it will be? I think it's so strange that all the Greek houses seem to be in Boston for MIT. I've also heard that the BU houses are in Cambridge.
Congratulations!!! |

The reason that the houses for MIT are in Boston (one of the reasons at least) is that the houses were sold to MIT by Boston U. in the 1970's. John Silber, the head of Boston U. for many years, did not like the Greek system and did everything possible to eradicate it. This included selling the houses under the noses of the fraternities and sororities. For a time it did nearly kill the system, and it was only the mid-late 1980's when Greek life started again at the school. This action hurt a great many chapters, including the founding chapters of both Tri-Delta and Lambda Chi Alpha. Aephi Alum - congratulations on your chapter getting a house. That's awesome, I hope they get many years from their new digs. |
The new house is on Bay State Road, practically in the middle of the BU campus. It's very near the MIT AEPi house... AEPi at MIT used to have both a house and an annex, and I'm trying to figure out if AEPi sold the annex and that's AEPhi's new house, or if AEPi still owns the annex and this is a third building.
KSigkid is right on with regards to the fraternities. The sororities are a different story - Alpha Phi, AXO, and Sigma Kappa didn't get their houses until the 1990s. |

That is great!!! A central focal point for Your Sorority!!!
But, now make sure that it is full so that it doesnt drag down the finances of The Chapter!!!! New quarters will be of a great help to You:cool: Well, New-Old so to speak, the only thing New In Boston was the Big Dig. KSKid, many changes have come at B U after a Good Change! |
That's awesome news!! I am sure that should be a boost for recruitment too.
|
That's great news! Congrats to both of you!

Yes, the changes have turned out for the best at BU - Greek life has recovered, and the chapters (including Lambda Chi) have been doing well for a few years now. |
Congrats! Securing property is an amazing thing for unhoused chapters! We're housed, but I had the same feeling when we secured our lot for our NEW home!
