Woman Raped by Lambda Chi Member


The woman says the Lambda Chi member forced her down and raped her inside the frat house. KASA has learned the alleged suspect is also on the fraternity's leadership board. Its website says the mission of the Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity, among other things, is to offer positive social experiences. An Albuquerque woman says their was nothing positive about the experience she had at UNM's Lambda Chi chapter last Thursday. The woman told police she and a 20-year old fraternity member, whose name we're not releasing because he hasn't been charged, were drinking alcohol. A search warrant says "The victim felt sick and decided to go take a shower to sober up." that's when she says the fraternity member "entered the shower totally nude." The woman told police she ran back into his room to gather her clothes, and says that's when the alleged suspect closed the door and raped her. The warrant says "the victim started screaming 'stop, don't do this.'" That's when a fellow fraternity member heard the screams, walked into the room, pulled the man off the woman, and called police. "We dispatched officers, we gathered evidence, we've interviewed the victim, we've interviewed witnesses, and we have secured a search warrant, and at this point we are actively investigating the case." Back in july of 2001 another woman claimed she was raped at the Lambda Chi house. The stripper told police she was invited inside the fraternity for a bachelor party when she was raped by a man who wasn't a member. No one answered the door at Lambda Chi for comment today.

What random girl takes a shower in a frat house, while drunk at night, to sober up?

Also why would her clothes be in his room and not the bathroom? So she undressed in his room and walked to the shower naked?

If I was a girl taking a shower in a frat house, I would go into the bathroom, lock the door, then take off my clothes.

Is there any more information about this anywhere? Looks to me like there may be more to the story.

Could they have said "Lambda Chi" any more times in the story? Its like it was personal for the reporter. Every other story I have ever seen in the media (and from what I know in my media background) says that you only need to mention a proper name every so often to identify, throughout the rest of the story 'the fraternity' would have sufficied, especially since it wasnt about multiple fraternities.

Oh well. Was this UNM or NM State? Do we have a chapter at both?

I know Lifesaver, that's some pretty poor reporting. The reporter probably has an agenda.

Here's what the reporter is really saying:

Lambda Chi Rape, Lambda Chi Rape, Lambda Chi Rape, hasn't been charged, Lambda Chi Rape, Lambda Chi Rape, Lambda Chi Rape, still investigating, Lambda Chi Rape, Lambda Chi Rape.

Not to nit-pick (but I'm going to) "...their was nothing positive..." try "there"

I am also intrigued by the way they start off the story with a quote from the web site, as if the whole fraternity is part of some dark conspiracy to lure unsuspecting women to their house and turn them into rape victims.

Also, even though they grudgingly admit that the guy hasn't been charged the headline reads Woman Raped by Lambda Chi Member. In other words, even though he's not charged, he's guilty.

When Ted Kennedy does stuff like this, nobody blames the whole Senate.

The headline after Ted Kennedy killed that girl would have read like this if the reporter wrote it.

"Police found a dead body in a crashed car, with the alleged suspect being a member of the U.S. Senate. The U.S. founding documents say, among other things, to offer life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Mary Jo, the victim, says there is nothing to do with her pursuit of her life after the events last Tuesday."

FWIW, I know that Illinois State has an alternative "Greek-style organization" which has as its letters "Lambda" and "Chi". They're not connected in any way w/our chapter or IFC, but are a "born again Christian fraternity".

Also, we do have chapters in both Albuquerque (UNM) & Las Cruces (NMSU).

The thing in the chapter's favor is that ANOTHER BROTHER CALLED POLICE. Last Fall Phi Tau's High Alpha got drunk and beat up his girlfriend and roommate, and was expelled from college. This had nothing to do with the chatper, and he was suspended from the chapter until 2014.

You have to separate members from the chatper at some point

That report says exactly the same thing as the fist one, but in a much more responsible way. There are a lot more words like "claims" and "alleged" in this report than there were in the first one.

Don't misunderstand me. If the guy did what the girl claims he did, he needs the book thrown at him. Just let the police investigate and get all the facts before you call the hangman.

What is the deal showing Delta Pi? Just curious?

I have to beleive that One Member does not make a Chapter, just as One Chapter does not make a Greek Organization.

In any instance like this, alligations will be thrown around like confetti.:( I wondered too about why She Took Her clothes off and went to take a shower. Seems some what provocative to me. A Stiff Penis has no concentious. A come on and she lost control?

But it is a credit to An Active Member who came upon this, did what He did and called the Police.

I just hope this is not another case like in Arizona, where a girl was killed by a drunk Lawyer and the Chapter was given the blame and then three years later, the Charter was pulled after the fact.

News Media will always sensationalize anything that has to do with Greek Organizations:(

My guess with regard to "Delta Pi" is that the tv station has one generic graphic they use for all "greek" stories, and that it just happened to be those two letters because they aren't in the English alphabet.

Let's just thank God that it wasn't a picture of pledge paddles or something like that.

Yes to that. As I have seen when I was a Police Officer, many things said and printed were totally wrong.

Hell, when I was in The Detective Bureau, Worked a Homocide, they did have the address right.:( Maroons!:rolleyes:

But as usual, a bad maybe apple sheds bad light on the rest of the Brothers, Chapter and The Fraternity. Just maybe He was not the bad apple, but, with the blood rushing from one head to the other, He was in a Non Mode?:rolleyes:

The really important quote in this wonderful piece of reportage is that she says the fraternity member "entered the shower totally nude." Can you imagine??? Who in his right mind does THAT? And in his own shower, no less. Proper decorum would dictate he wear a fashionable bathing suit like the rest of us. What a pervert, huh?
