Beta-Omega chapter?

First of all, does anyone ever post on this board anymore? Maybe everyone's not back at school yet.

Anyway, does anyone know if they're planning on recolonizing the Southwest Missouri State (or Missouri State as it's called now) chapter? I know MU is recolonizing right now.

Since our beloved Eric "retired", it's been kinda quiet. We really miss him.

None of the individual GLO sites (except the BGLOs) gets much action.

We're looking for referrals for students at the University of Missouri who may be interested in restarting the Beta-Theta Chapter.
If you know of a Teke or non-Teke at Missouri (or someone who will be there in Fall 2005), please forward his name and any contact information to me via e-mail.

There is a forum for just teke's at http://www.tkeforums.com. This site it great to be able to communicate across the board with all greeks. If you are looking for specific TKE related stuff though it might be worth a look.

Chatted with a frater from Missouri Western. A transfer from that school is now at Missouri State now trying to reactivate Beta-Omega chapter. Thought you might need some good news after all the grief you get from the "fatties"... :D

I know the guys that came to USC to help with our recolonization went to Mizzou after they left here (kind of ironic that USC and MU are playing each other in a bowl game this season)...I believe they are going to helping the expansion effort at the University of Arizona and UMASS in the upcoming semester

I am a few months shy of 70, fraters. I never met anyone with my forename (first name) 'til I was 16...in Kansas. Now there are
Eric and Eriks all around. And TKE is no exception...we got old Erik, young Erik, Keystone Eric, well endowed Eric, and so on.
TKE used, USED, to be a killer, a powerhouse in Missouri. We have a few good chapters, but dead ones at UMStL, UMKC, SEMo,
Central, Tarkio (school closed), colonies supposedly at Mizzou & Missouri State and were blown out of the water at two potential newbies.
So, it is indeed time. Old Erik, me, has not retired, but frankly, this
site sucks, the GC one, Greek in general, has a bunch of uglies as
know-it-all hoggers and nasties, and it has an extremely heavy
ethnic (I call it discrimination) wannabees who have no clue other
than step shows and alum networking. But, in all fairness to them, we might say that the concept of Fraternity is indeed different these days, just as Zeta Psi, Deke, the old Union Triad, are different than modern Pike, Sig Ep, Lambda Chi, TKE, Kappa Sig, Sigma Chi, SAE, and there are some in-betweens as Beta who
has most of the marbles, self-important Phi Psi with their BFD large endowment, and so on. But I have not retired. I have been
a TKE volunteer now for 42 years, got no awards, honors or thanks, but then...I am not doing this for the brag plaques, I got
plenty of them in my career. But I am interested mostly in NIC groups, mostly housed, 50s era-type fraternities, and these were
the kind of chapters I worked with. We were mannerly, we were
fraternal, and we were discreet. I am in poor health and have a helleva tough time with no legs now (diabetes) but I can still yell
and talk...not like Tex, Wilson, Logan but there are not many my
age around...Melchert...and we have run off most of 'em.
Naw, I am not retired, but have about said all I care to say to the
fatsos or the ethnics. Besides, if we see an Asian or Black guy we
want, WE PLEDGE HIM, make him a frater, we do not get all puffed
up about "culture." But like I said to Mark Fite five years ago, TKE
ought to be reviving 15 chapters a year. Hasn't happened, and I
don't know why. The old Erik used to raise hell about these things, but I am just too tired. But not re-tired. YITB, Uncle E

Tau Kappa Epsilon re-establishing organization, recruiting members

Tau Kappa Epsilon, the world’s largest social fraternity has returned to Columbia, Missouri this month.
“The percentage of social fraternity and sorority members at the University of Missouri is well above that of many comparable universities,” said Chris Leemon, an expansion consultant for the fraternity headquarters and Northern Michigan alumnus.

The university’s large number of on-campus and near-by residents provides a solid student base. Another reason for re-colonizing, he said, is that the university used to be home to a TKE Chapter.
“One of the first places we look to expand is at universities where we’ve had a group before,” Leemon said.
Leemon, along with fellow expansion consultant Stephen Lytle, a University of South Florida graduate, will be in Columbia for approximately seven weeks until December 11th. After their departure they will maintain contact with the colony via telephone and e-mail to ensure its successful return to campus.
“I am in constant contact with new groups to ensure that they have all the necessary tools to be successful,” Lytle said.
Currently TKE recruitment began this week and they hope to garner a total of fifty new recruits before they leave the campus. He added that the best way to recruit is to collect referrals from faculty, other Greek fraternities and sororities, and clubs on campus rather than hosting parties that may attract “the wrong kinds of members”.
“New Members are recruited through a recommendation process. Tau Kappa Epsilon's process does not rely on a mass marketing approach, although we do have an informational booth in Brady Commons on a daily basis for students who would otherwise be unaware of the re-colonization. However, most recommendations are solicited from meetings with the aforementioned stakeholders,” Lytle said. “Tau Kappa Epsilon seeks to recruit individuals, who set scholarship as their top priority; who involve themselves on campus and in the community; who are competitive and team players; and who treat themselves and others with respect.”
Tau Kappa Epsilon’s campaign is “Redefining Fraternity”, a concept that includes being selective about the quality of the candidates to insure a chapter that will consistently be the best on campus. Lytle said candidates are given information and interviewed to determine whether they will be a good match for the fraternity. Members, he adds, should be active in one student organization, as well as maintain a 2.5 GPA or a 2.75 if that member is to become an officer.

We didn't make that 50 man goal before the expansion consultants left, but at least we beat South Carolina in that bowl game.

PS: Don't go for 50, go for 75

I agree with Hoosier, go for 75 (or more). We have had a piss poor rep at Mizzou over the years and the chapter was small,
under 60 men. One of the reasons Pike is doing so well in their
reactivations is that they simply come in with SIZE, or to be p.c.
"presence" and I assume these are quality men. TKE has many good chapters in MO and most have 'presence.' We need a 100
man group. Our revival failures have all been due to failure to get
enough men, then depart leaving them floundering as neophytes.
Missouri is a great greek school....no reason we have to have a weenie chapter...so let's not shoot ourselves in the foot anew.
You simply do not cut it, any way you look at it, with LESS than
a hundred man chapter in the "old big eight" school, and this'd
be true with the "old big ten" ones, too. The streetcar schools, the ones without houses...well, that's a different scenario.
We have lost sight of our original goals in revivals, and we need to get back on track. I predict a failure here, again, unless we get
to crackin' size-wise. You MUST have a nice house at Mizzou and
you do not get a nice one, cannot afford it, with less than 100 men in the chapter...not all live ins...'go get 'em, they are there.

I completely agree that we need over 100 men. The expansion consultants were here recruiting from the last week in October to the beginning of December. During that time about 30 men joined the group. With that said, what timeframe do you think we need to reach 100 by in order to be successful. I know the spring semester will be more difficult to recruit. I believe Pike took in the most last spring with only 20 new men. As far as getting a nice house, I'm not sure how quickly that can be accomplished. Currently there only appears to be one house vacant in our Greektown area, and two fraternities have just recently rechartered in the past year - Sigma Tau Gamma and Pi Kappa Phi. Also I would expect that Sigma Chi will be returning within the next 1-2 years, which would bring us to a total of 30 IFC fraternities on campus. I greatly appreciate everyone's advice on here, as well as from those men that will be serving on our Board of Advisors.

wait a minute what is all this business about beating Spurrier...I still cry abit when I thing about the I-Bowl...our play calling in the 2nd half sucked as did our defense.

I have seen it work BUT

it takes an active adivser on their board
AND
it takes weekly pre-meeting of officers to discuss week's progress
PRIOR to the chapter meeting. BE SURE you have all the
to anticipated questions during the meeting
at the meeting...POSITIVE...have chart, discuss next week's
rushees
INVITE men to eat with you..either at the house, if you have one,
or out...where you can establish rapport if not
DO NOT BID on first meeting unless you have a specific reason to
BID the SECOND TIME ask'em something like
Try to take ALL legacies....many reasons, but for now, BID 'em
How would you react if you were asked to join TKE?
if not positive, tell 'em you are making a survey, sizing up who
we would like to have, and invite him next week; same tactic
if positive, extend him a bid
BE CAREFUL...three out of four will pledge
Get class mates, try to stay away from education majors, p.e. ones, fine arts, and liberal arts (forget psychology & philosophy)
WHY--these are generalities---not loyal, have low expectations &
bleak earnings in future; not good in sales.
BEST: Business majors, pre-law, pre-med, administration. These
men know about paying bills, generally most realistic.
Just some thoughts from an old man. IT WILL WORK but MUST
be consistent...no breaks in chain. No limpdicks or weenies.

Mizzou is one of the few major campuses I've never been too, but my experience at IL, IN, & GA says "'get men from the small towns and rural areas".

The rich big city suburbs were always the worst. Probably the best ones have already been grabbed by the established chapters with mansions.

The small town kid probably has more HS leadership experience, is more loyal and more active, and probably has parents who will pitch in too.

Anybody else agree with this?
