Problems with national chapters

My sorority is not a national chapter and for that reason my organization and all the others on our campus are treated like we are worthless by this one and only national chapter on our campus. Our letters get torn off our House broken, awards get stolen that we win for being "most outstanding, etc.". No matter what they still continue to reek havoc among greek life on our campus. I know violence should never enter greek life sooo someone offer some advice!!!!!!!

Get your Greek Life Advisor or whoever oversees sororities at your school involved. Also, if people are burglarizing and vandalizing your property, get the police involved too.

All the other Greeks on campus are local and allowing this one national group to terrorize them? That sounds really odd. I would think they would be the ones on the outside.

If you know for sure that they are the ones doing it, get proof and report it to their national headquarters.

My advice? Do nothing. Continue to beat them in everything. Continue to be classy and not retaliate. Just continue to be awesome. Let them waste their energy and time being petty while you all excell.

(PS, I'm in a local sorority, considered by some on campus (of all locals) to be of no consequence because of our size...but yet we still win grades and we kicked butt at greek week this year, and we've never been before judicial and we just have a straight sisterhood with little drama. Soooo...the best way to beat em is to just keep doing what you're doing.)

If you have prove that they are doing these things, file a complaint against the individual members to the cops. Then, file another complaint to the school about the organization as a whole. Ask for an emergency meeting of the Greek Council or what ever it is you call it and publicly accuse them of being a problem sorority. Of course, this all could work only if you have concrete evidences.

Okay the way I'm understanding the situation is that ABC is the only national chapter on your campus. You (XYZ) and a few other locals are being harassed by ABC. Right?

Personally, I think ABC is so jealous that they can't see straight.

Here you all are a local chapter, no national ties or support, yet your kicking their ass when it comes to awards and recognition.

I think they are behaving this way because they don't have a national to compete with.

I went to big schools, tons of nationals. I honestly don't recall the nationals being competitive with locals. They were competitive with nationals. (But I also don't recall too many locals at either ASU or U of A either).

Do you have proof it was ABC? I ask because what they are doing is vandelism, straight out they are breaking the law.

Could you take your "suspicions" to the greek council. Don't locals have representation there?

Just wondering, How many Locals in NC?

How many Schools have one National and the rest are Locals?

Just want to get a better handle on this situation!

Vandalism is a Police Problem. Make sure if it happens, and who might have done it, Have Proof.

If this is your only Post, then makes some of us wonder if it is true or Just BS!:)

Well i can't speak for any other school than mine so i do not know how many locals are at each school. But at my school there is one national sorority and one national fraternity then there are 4 local sororities and 3 local fraternities. Our school is private it's very small. The locals have been on campus since as far back as 1962 the national ones are rather new. I didn't know i needed a certain number of posts to be taken seriously, sorry :)!! I only turned here because proof is very hard to come by especially when it comes to pressing charges and bringing evidence before the Inner Greek Council. You can't get any action out of either of those choices with only circumstantial evidence. It would require pictures, fingerprints, an eye witness, etc. and those things we do not have. Thanks for the other replies though!!!!!!!

Try a video camera!!!

I think it sucks that any group national or local would ever deface the property of another group. That's pretty low!

aopirose 08-01-2005 05:42 PM

If you have no proof then how do you know it's them?

GammaGurl1986 08-01-2005 05:46 PM

Well, when every other sororities things get messed up, banners stole, letters broken, etc. it's always the locals and when you hear "oh everyone likes us thats why no one messes with our stuff" come on now..They act way to obvious and say things in passing but when you go to have someone do something about it that's just "hear say"

Because without physical proof, that's exactly what it is- hearsay.

Set up a video camera. Get alarms mounted on things. Report things when they happen. Ask around to see if there are witnesses. Get police reports made and take pics. We don't go to your school, so the best advice anyone can give you is to get proof.

The bottom line: no one can do anything about it unless you have some sort of PHYSICAL PROOF. I understand that you are angry. Vandalism sucks and it shouldn't happen to ANYONE.

Yes, they might act "obvious" or whatever, and that sucks, if they are the ones doing these things to you, but you need more than that before someone takes action against these girls.

You want to be sure these are the girls before you take this to the cops or Greek Life, rather than being wrong and feeling bad for falsely accusing them.

aopirose 08-01-2005 06:17 PM

My goodness all of this stuff is happening to every other organization and not a single soul actually heard or saw the crimes being committed? How long has this been going on? When the police came out to investigate what advice did they give you? If there are some loose lips among the sorority in question, were the police notified so that possibly warrants could be issued to retrieve the stolen property and arrests made?

When this happened at my husband's fraternity house, the security camera caught the individuals and they were arrested two days later.

TSteven 08-01-2005 07:28 PM

Before making false accusations toward the NPC chapter, are you sure that it may not be one of the fraternities? Or perhaps some random individual or individuals who are not Greek?
