Good place to study?
 

My requirements are:

1) Quiet
2) Desk and chair
3) Not my apartment or my office
4) Open later and on Sundays

I'm thinking university libraries are my only choice. Are there any other options?

I have the same dilemma except I need to find somewhere to go to get mounds of paperwork done for my job. I get nothing accomplished in my apartment because I have a lot of distractions here. I just ordered a new laptop so I can take my work with me wherever I find that place to be to get it done...........

Community libraries fill this bill as well. Also we have a lounge at my place of worship that fits this need.

Yeah but those libraries close pretty early and also usually aren't open on Sundays.

I second this, followed by Borders and Barnes and Noble. That is if they don't have any special events going on.

I use the galleries at school a lot, and the CMoA here in Pittsburgh. Especially if you're studying art history...you can just cruise over and look at a Monet rather than relying on a crappy reproduction. And it is quiet and well lit.

Do they usually play music at bookstores?

Not always - some of the Borders around here are pretty quiet and good places to study. I know that some of them do play music though, it varies from store to store.

I cannot study anywhere around computers, as you can see I tend to spend all my time goofing off on the internet. :rolleyes:

I like studying at Barnes and Noble, especially on the comfy chairs!

I am not a big fan of studying at community libraries--- I've tried this at multiple community libraries and each time I was disrupted by screaming kids. I agree that university libraries are the best, or a quiet classroom or boardroom at a house of worship.

I've also come into work on the weekends and gone into the small boardroom to study. That's really quiet.

Also, this is terribly cliche, but if you can filter out the contemporary background music and don't mind shelling out $4 for a frappucino, Starbucks is wonderful. I am so much more productive with my GMAT studying when it's just me, my books and my latte.

I have to study some place where there is a bit of background noise, like Borders, Starbucks, or Barnes and Nobles. I'm a big fan of the Barnes and Nobles that has a Starbucks in it.

Although, I think places like Atlanta Bread Co or Panarea might top my list next year because they provide free wi-fi and I can get actual food instead of living on frappacinos and scones.

You might want to try your office. I've been studying recently and I come into the office later in the afternoon on Saturday and sometimes on Sunday.

I'm the only one there and it stays pretty quiet because the Financial District of SF pretty much shuts down on the weekends.
