This is just another example of how reality is stranger (and funnier) than fiction. |

LOL! Here's more: http://www.faintinggoat.com/learnab.htm What is Myotonia? Myotonia is the condition that causes Fainting goats to stiffen and/or fall over when startled. This condition is caused by a combination of recessive genes. Fainting goats can show varying degrees of myotonia. When startled some will fall to the ground with their entire bodies perfectly stiff and rigid. Others will only stiffen in their limbs and not fall to the ground. The condition lasts for ten to fifteen seconds after which time the animal will rise and walk off stiff, still showing a noticeable degree of stiffness in their back limbs. After a short time this stiffness will disappear and they will walk and act like any other goat. This condition only affects their external muscles so while in a myotonic state the animal is fully conscious and aware of its surroundings. In no way does this condition affect their life span and with proper care they will live just as long as any other breed of goat. |
When I first saw this thread, I thought it said "Farting Goats"...LOL

My cousins and I used to startle the goats all the time for them to faint..heh. Ahh..fun times :)

I can't believe that you all have never heard of or seen a faitning goat. They are relatively common here....

I've never even seen a regular goat before!

There were 3 fainting goats at the camp where my daughter is a wrangler. Were. Because when they were rushed by some mean dogs, they fainted and the dogs tore them up. :(

Growing up, our next-door neighbors had a "Goat-Cart"...that is right, a "Goat-Cart"...NOT, a "Go-Cart." The Goat-cart had tiny reins and that would take 4-8 goats to pull a tiny sleigh.... Like Christmas, only different and more funny... Silver |
one of the vets I work with use to have a fainting goat. Poor thing-it would just fall over if you startled it.
