Results of Leadership Seminar 2005

Hey guys,

I will not be at LS 05, however like many of us we'd like to know what happened who won awards and if there was anything interesting that comes of the event.

Greetings from College Park, home of the Fighting Terrapins and some of the hottest weather I've ever had to endure. My bride & I slogged through a 110+ degree heat index today in DC...damn, it was HOT.

Jason: Don't worry, I think SOMEBODY will get in touch w/you. Since I don't have your cell #, send me a PM.

ZAX,
BF

Hi, troops...hey, this is my bicentennial post! Cool...

Anyway, I'm writing from the safety of Howard Johnson's, about one mile from the UM campus. Tonite's entertainment was the hypnotist they had @ GA04, Jim Wand. I figured I've seen enough of 275 lb. UG's being entranced into singing, "Feel Like a Woman", so I came back here.

It's fairly evenly split between High Pis and GHZ/Order of Merit folks. This AM John did a workshop on Risk Management in the same room where my Alumni Assn./HC spiel was done (he went first, per schedule). I've also been hanging out w/Andy & John during various alumni functions (there are around 50 of us in various age brackets).

As a special treat, we got to hear from George Spasyk, LCA historian Chuck Peyser (Univ. of the South) and a 93-year-old Theta Kappa Nu alum chatting about the history of TKN/LCA. George is 82, and he told me, "I hope I'm half as spry if I get to 93." Trust me, George is doing very well...

The chapter awards were handed out today, and the alums will get their turn @ tomorrow's lunch. Results will be posted on lambdachi.org soon. Also, the website will feature photos from Flickr. Roger Wilco, over and out...

Later in ZAX,
BF

Day two

Sponging off of somebody's wifi. Sitting on the front porch of a dorm swatting mosquitos.

My seminar went well, but turns out I only had 45 minutes vs. 1 hour. Tomorrow I get an hour and a half - go figure.

I also had a chance to spend 30 minutes with George. A true visionary. There was a small reception this afternoon and George sat down at my table. A truly memorable conversation took place. I suppose that, no matter how long I live, I will likely only remember a half dozen or so genuine events in my Fraternal life. This afternoon was one of them.

Maryland is hot and sticky. Kinda like a Finnish sauna.

When I see the bright, young excited faces around me, trying to absorb all that they can about the Fraternity, I am encouraged. I need to go to these things more often.

Green Envy!!!!!

Just sitting and reading your experiences is very rewarding.

Thinking back to G A 2004, I can almost imagine the great times you are having. So wish I could have been there with you.:)

All of you will have to give a blow by blow description on Your return to home bases.

boz, hope your bride is/was there to take Pixs of all of You Guys!!!!

Saturday

Second seminar went much beter. I had an hour and a half and that was just right to have some fun, play some games, laugh a bit and make the points that I wanted to make.

I believe that Bill Farkas will do an outstanding job as the new EVP. He understands that this is a Fraternity first and foremost and that taking care of the undergrads is what it is really all about. He's got the head.

John Holoway is an amazing man. He deeply understands what ritual is all about, more so than probably any staff member that I have ever met. Lest that sound harsh, let me rephrase. He is quite open with his thoughts regarding the ritual and they mirror my own. Few staff members have been as willing to discuss teh ritual as John and that is so refreshing. He was hired for the heart.

Bill has the head.
Biff has the heart.

What more do we need?

Shippensburg's undergrad attendees confirmed that we got a big fat plaque for placing first for best chapter website. They seemed to have a great expereince with this event and really enjoyed it.

Lets hear some more LS stories, did anyone go out anywhere, clubs etc.

I had a great time as the LS, I hope you all enjoyed the exemp, we worked very hard on it. I was very stoked when Mr Spasyk said what he did about us. We initiated two brothers... a AM from Hanover as well as John "Biff" Holloway's father as an honorary. It was the experience of a life time.

In ZAX,
Chris Arnold

PS....I was also one of those undergrads to get hypnotized....weird stuff...fun tho

The High Alpha and High Delta from Pi Iota Zeta of NC A&T State came back with a nice little surprise. The Phoinex Award, that's something! Guess having"new management" did do some good after all..hahaha. They both came back hyped which is good..kind of reminds me of myself when I got back from GA.

P.S. If any of you met my little brother the new High Delta Vic Mason....I apologize..for the random things he saids..hahahaha
